Sick Calls

I can hear the sick call harassment now. "You only have to work 7 days in a row, can't you throw up into a garbage can and still fly the plane?"

I dunno, regardless of one's actual illness, I say you should always call in sick with diarrhea. See, you threw up in your mouth a little, didn't you? No further explanation or excuses needed. Maybe enhance it a little with "ferocious" or "cataclysmic". No one has time for that!! Haha

You should call in sick anytime you aren't fit to fly, but yes mud butt is a "for sure" on the call in sick list lol.

I'll be damned if I feel the need to give a crew scheduler (or whoever takes sick calls) a reason. I'm not fit to fly. If they want verification they can send me to a doctor.

Yep. Never been asked, never told crew support why I am sick or why I am fatigued, I just am... I think if a company is asking you why you are sick, that is harassment.

I seriously doubt I'd get selected for a Center management position. All my time is terminal. Plus anywhere along the east coast sounds miserable to me.

Being a center controller is not a requirement for being a flm in the center. The only requirement is being a weak controller

We have a sup in my area that was at a cargo hub apch. She was there as a controller for just over a year, eer to my Z, while she was training bid on a sup job. The day after she was checked out she was picked up for a sup.

One of her memorial moments was breaking up random refueling to run an opposite direction through the middle, block was 250-270 and had 260 traffic. Instead of turning the 260 she broke up the refuelers then joined en back up after passing.

About all of the sups at my facility are weak sticks running from traffic.

I was mostly kidding with that, but that excuse SHOULD work with even the most nasty bosses. Worked with Office Max, my first job.

Why do you feel like you need an excuse to call in sick? The FARs are pretty clear about not operating an aircraft if you aren't well.

OfficeMax, sure... but we are talking about aviation jobs here.

Maybe it's just an inside joke/poop humor/ect. I didn't say you shouldn't call in sick or need an excuse.

If I worked for such a place though, aviation or not, mud butt it is, always.

When I was in the military the 2 times I went to sick call, mud butt was def the explanation I gave to both my Crew boss and the doc lol. It was merely coincidental that those 2 times were also COD release dates...

Been at a few different facilities now, I've seen very strong controllers move into supervision. And I've also seen many more weak controllers that stick to working traffic.
It's almost like people decide to move into management based on more factors than just how strong of a controller they are. Shocker.
