SIC Position

That's definitely overthinking the interpretation - that you must use the autopilot in all phases of flight despite published operating limitations and safety considerations.

OTOH, the interpretation is not completely clear on what happens if the operator designates the flight as "no autopilot" but the pilots decide to use it anyway.

Also, I think you misread what I was trying to say about AP limitations. I was getting in front of the absurd argument that with the AP off for normal ops, (take off and landing) that WOULD NOT constitute the need for a SIC. I am arguing that the way the interp reads is that you must have an SIC on board (135 pax ops) if you turn off the autopilot (keeping the stupid argument at bay, that the AP must be off for take off and landing or other AFM limitations).

"If the PIC is legal to log the time single pilot, there is no way to log it SIC unless the required equipment is not there. No ifs ands or buts about it. Stop trying to justify a joke of flight time, go CFI for a couple months, it won't kill ya."

Still at it, eh jhguz?

If the operator's opspecs require an SIC, the time can indeed be logged.

When I'm coherent ill discuss this more.
Don't forget to bring your "I was wrong" line. :D
Like I was wrong about GoJets? Yet Im still paying for it today in networking. :rolls eyes:

Just so you know, I'm a patient man. I know that it sometimes takes some time for me to dig up information to substantiate my claims. Or it can take time to decide to admit when I'm wrong. So I don't mind waiting to see which of those plans (or maybe an alternate I haven't thought of yet) you think might be appropriate in this situation.

Don't hold your breath...

Just so Im clear, what was the question? And what do you disagree with now, and what do you need me to defend. I've been sleeping/flying and that's about it over the past couple of days. I will try to get you the LOI, I have it somewhere, just may take a couple days.

Your claim is that in Part 135 AFR passenger carrying operations, if the company has Ops Specs for the use of an autopilot-in-lieu-of-SIC, that they CANNOT choose to fore go the autopilot option, that it is MANDATORY. I say that the company has the choice and that using an autopilot in place of the SIC is OPTIONAL not MANDATORY.

I have an LOI posted that supports my claim. The ball is in your court.

Good luck.

You are correct, I was very intoxicated while writing those posts. For 91 though you cannot chose like 135. I have a LOI that states that. So yes I was wrong, and will eat crow.

Very good. Feel free to use seasonings on that bird as you see fit. :)

I'll make a minor critique on the Part 91 in that you are talking about different rules and scenarios for the SIC to be able to log time, or not log time, in a single-pilot-approved turbojet (as opposed to Part 135 regulatory requirement). Kind of an apples/oranges comparison, but I'll cut you some slack and say that your general premise is OK.
