Should I apply to a major with little experience?

Hi all, I've been at a regional airline for about 7 months (new dispatcher) and was wondering if I should test my luck and start applying into majors...

If I do so do you guys think it would hinder my chances when I reapply in the future if I don't go through this first time?

Also are there any major airlines that are more open to hiring dispatchers with little experience?

Any opinions will help! Thank you!

I've seen it happen plenty of times, but there's more to life than being a really, really, really, ridiculously good looking woman.

A couple of dispatchers AA picked up in their most recent classes only had a few months under their belt. No harm in applying, might as well and see what happens.

I only know one person who torpedoed their shot at a major by applying with little experience. A family member got them an interview and they went in thinking they had the job while being woefully underprepared.

I'm guessing these 2 dispatchers with a few months experience were very well connected or or had quite the resume prior to dispatching? To my knowledge AA doesn't even interview anyone that new. It takes a few months to even get signed off as a dispatcher. I would think the very bare minimum would be a year so you've at least seen the job in all four seasons.

Yes she knew someone, but I'm sure she must have impressed them in the interview too.

I know a DX that recently got hired at a major with less than 3 months dispatch experience, but they had several years of previous experience in maintenance support and other aviation departments.
 
As stated above.
Always apply but be prepared. I have seen some really good dispatchers not make into the the major they wanted because they did not prepare
for the interview.
I also suggest looking at the time you are at the regional as an extended job interview. You never know who knows who. This is a relatively small
industry.
 
Just don’t lie on the application. When the auto disquaifier “do you have at least 1 year part 121 experience” comes up, say no and take the rejection letter that comes minutes later in stride. If you try to fake out the computer, a real person will blacklist you and you’re likely never getting on with said major.
