Shooting Aboard An AAL Flight . . .

Apparently, shots were fired on an American flight in Miami. According to the folks jumping the gun on CNN, the shots were fired on the airplane . . . Flight 924 . . . ? Originated in Columbia?

Anybody know more?

I'm questioning the facts that they're passing. The reporter on the TV said that the plane was " . . . on the runway . . . " when shots were fired. Of course, we know that to non-aviation folks, on the runway could be anywhere from the ramp to the hold-short line.

Thanks Lloyd
Just turned on the TV ... sitting in the pilot lounge in Statesboro, GA. It should be interesting in how / what the aviation "experts" have to say. Hang on it'll be a "fun" ride.

Jim

Flight was still on the ground when shots were fired. Looks like flight #924 is a MIA-MCO flight.

Jim, it's already begun! The reporter said that she thinks there could be drugs involved, since the flight originated in Columbia . . .

The now say it was a Federal Air Marshal, this could get interesting.

From a Miami TV site:
Miami-Dade fire rescue officials confirmed the shooting.

The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. on AA flight 924, heading to Orlando.

Now they are reporting that a passenger claimed they had a bomb, attempted to move aggressively forward in jetway while boarding, and was shot by an air marshal.

Confirmed:

Passenger boarding claimed to have a bomb in carry on bag. A Federal air marshall confronted the individual, the passenger ran off the plane. The FAM shot the passenger after the person reached into their bag.

Flight 924 from Medine and continuing onto Orlando.

Something that peaked my interest, the flight originated in Medellin, Columbia. Kind of odd to claim you have a bomb after pulling up to the gate and in the process of deboarding.

Perhaps the TSA will take the hint and not relax the reg's about what is permitted for carry-on.

My understanding was they were boarding, the man then claimed to have a bomb in the bag, and the 2 (if not more, but probably only 2) FAM's, gave him orders that were ignored, he reached into his carry-on, and the Air Marshals shot him.

Ohhh, I like this new smilie: :sitaware:

FOX says it was going to Orlando, but just came from Columbia, but I cant find out if it was during deplaning or boarding. And supposevley (sp.) there was a team of air marshalls onboard.

FOX was intervieving some guy and he goes like, "I think the air marshall made the right choice, and he did some 'damn fine shootin'!

My Dad was watching Fox News, and I could stand about five minutes of Shepard Smith and the Fox News friends before I had to come up here and leave the TV. See, this is why I don't watch cable news! I put on CNN Headline News in the morning at work (it's on every hotel TV) to see blurbs about what's been going on, but that's about it.

Just heard TSA spokesman saying that airplane was being deboarded so pax could clear customs. Suspect tried to run when confronted. Actually got down on ground as ordered by FAM's, then reached for bag.. and was fatally shot.
