Shoes...

Boot pros-

-Slip on and off with no laces to tie.
-Don't have to wear black socks, because well, no one can see them. You can even wear your spongebob socks.
-After broken in they feel like house slippers.
-Great for walk-arounds in the snow and rain.
-After broken in some more, they feel like moccasins.

Boot cons-

-Most have the metal stud that sets off the security detector so they have to come off (not good for the ego when you have on your spongebob socks but makes a great laugh) There are plenty without the metal studs, however.

-A little bit warmer than average shoes in the summer time. But not as bad as most think.
-Takes up a lot more room in rollaboards.

If boots are totally outta the qestion. Another good choice are the Cherokees from Target. I own a pair and notice a lot of others in them. I think it's because they're inexpensive.

Hush Puppies makes some dress shoes without the fiberglass shank.

Also, check out Justin Roper boots. They are security friendly (fiberglass shank). They don't look like cowboy boots - more like dress shoes but with a boot.

Must be different styles because mine have the metal shank

Yeah I'm not much of a boot wearing guy, but they do sound good for the winter.

Oh which reminds me, I am no airline pilot...yet, these will just be for a flight academy (PAIFA) that I'll be attending soon. It's in Phoenix so I'm guessing I won't need shoes to handle snow or de-icing. But I do still want airport friendly shoes as I do travel as much as I can.

Cherokees are an idea, but I don't know if I can stray away from my name-brand tendencies. However, I do believe Ecco's are a bit pricey for me. I guess I'm looking more around the 35-75 dollar range.

Thanks to all who have made suggestions so far!

I still love seeing the older airline guys around the airports sporting their cowboy boots. :)

Any suggestions for a good pair of comfortable dress shoes for flying that do not look too bad?

Doug Taylor Classics, the Doc Marten #1461: Love 'em!

But mine have the yellow stitching though. Ehh, a couple shines, some spilled coffee and a little bit of gunk from walking around the ramp will dull the yellow significantly.

Looooks like a shoe, feeeeeels like a sneaker!

I have terrible feet and I can wear these things for 18 to 20 hours and they're supercomfy like bunny slippers pulled fresh out of the dryer by mommy.

I love Docs. They were originally orthepedic shoes for flat feet. ;)

:tmyk:

And flat feet I have. I'm Black Fred Flintstone.

That was the first hint that the lead flight attendant last year was a tranny...

"Hey, she's kinda tall and got feet like mine! AroOOoOo!?"

I fixed my yellow stitching with a sharpie 6 mos ago, still lookin good. Took about 15 mins to do the pair.

Skechers. Pretty durable, not so pricey so I don't get upset when they scratch, and they don't make the metal detector go off.

This is what I've got. Cost about $60, and 2.5 years, they're just now starting to wear out. And that's after I flew nearly 1000 hours in one of those years, so they saw a LOT of airport walking. That being said....

Doug, do you have to take those Docs off going through Checkpoint Charlie (okay, not the REAL one, but the Gestapo at the airport)? I've been thinking of making the switch now that mine are finally starting to break down.
