Shoes, pants, the little stuff ...

If specified, this will replace the title that
I know there was a thread not too long ago about shoes and I'll go search it up right now but I'd like to get some input on some shoes that comfortable but can withstand snow, ice, de-ice fluid and dust and grime.

Also, has anybody tried the "dress" pants at Taget? I have a $75 allowance for uniform pants and Target is about as cheap as I've seen outside of a clearance store.
 
Bill's shoes he gets at the uniform store in ATL. They're composite shank so no beeping at security. I'll have to go look at the shoeboxes in his closet and see what brand they are.

Go for a cotton/poly blend with the pants, 100% polyester doesn't breathe and sticks to your butt in the summer. The blended fabric lends itself to realative wrinkle-free-lessness, but has some breathability. (And is machine washable, unlike DL's uniform pants.)
 
You can always check your local department store. I bought two pair of Kenneth Cole pants for 25 bucks a pop, they were on sale from somewhere around $90 a pair.

I bought a pair of Skechers, they look pretty classy when shined up and they have a thick sole so the leather doesn't come in contact with the gunk that can be found on a ramp. They are airport friendly as well and they weren't too expensive if they need to be replaced.
 
Hit your local Costco; they had some nice black dress pants for cheap last time I was in there
 
A pointer on the shoes. Do NOT get shoes with a leather sole as de-ice fluid and gasoline will eat through it faster than a Wisconsinite eats gouda.

Personally, I prefer shoes with a thick, grippy sole so I don't slip on ice or on wet surfaces.

You can take a magic marker and scribble out the yellow stitching in about two minutes and the sole looks black when you wear it.
 
ummm... one thing that's wrong there...a wisconsinite doesn't eat gouda as much as they eat chedda.. so if you want to make your point more *pointed*, you might want to change that to

"faster than a wisconsinite can eat chedda" :)

Yeah I like Doc's too but ever since they were bought by Nike I've had a hard, hard time bringing myself to buy them. :(
 
Woohoo, I found a pants gold mine today. Sears had David Taylor Slacks, which almost exactly match Cintas uniform pants, for 15 bucks each. Now if I could only find some without the blasted pleats.

I also ordered some new uniform shirts from pilotshirts.com, since the pit stains on my 1 year old shirts were getting too nasty to tolerate. The company reimubrses us for uniforms up to 150 bucks a year.

My fav "shoes" are my ostrich leather, Justin Boots. I used to wear Doc's but the boots are a million times for comfortable. Now keep in mind I'll probably change my tune after I have to walk across an icy ramp a few times and end up looking like a scared rolie polie. ;)
 
I wished I could've worn my old Laredos to work. They were so comfortable.

However, the whole 'dirty steel-tipped cowboy boot' look just didn't go with the uniform.

I suppose they're going to go for 'style' over 'comfort', reduce quality and charge more for the shoes. I hope those numbnuts know that some of us purchase them because we have rotten feet!
 
I'm still on the fence about what shoes to get. Prolly get a pair of plain-toe heapo-cheapo oxfords from Ross or something. I'm in a pair of Florsheims that have utterly disintegrated, although they have been hella-comfortable, easy to shine, and airport friendly up until they decided to dissolve. Can't really justify shelling out the $100+ for Rockports or the like when I know they're just going to get scuffed, scratched, gouged, and will look like hell in two months anyway. Then again, there's the comfort factor... Yup. Still on the fence.

Mind you, this is coming from the guy who still runs around the terminal with his 'Little-Ghetto-Johnny-I'm-a-pilot' kit, replete with Office Depo flight case, Ross rollaboard, and Officemax 2" binders for my Jepps. First year at the regional's a little rough on the 'ol pocketbook.

Gotta say though, I just shelled out a Jackson for a Van Heusen tapered pilot shirt and I can't be happier. Eyelets for the wings are niiice. So's the stain-resistant coating, although that makes it a bit hard to starch. The sleeves are cuffed, good fitting, and hold a crease well. The cloth is pretty heavy oxford pinpoint, and the stitching and buttons seem pretty tough, so I think It'll last. Damn sight better than those thin flimsy poofed-out Cintas POS's. Not to say that there's not a better pilot shirt out there, I'm just happy with mine. And no embroidered wings for the love of god! Those are nasty-lookin'.

Jim, You are so A#AL. LOL Personally I prefer the Old Navy shorts, a free t shirt from Freebirds and tennis shoes. But the again, the load of boxes in the back of the Lear don't care.

Dickies at Wal-mart for pants for $19! However, i fly freight. May not be "snazzy" enough for pax.

I found a pair of Rockports at Macy's for $49. I wish I would have bought a few pair. Great shoes for sun, rain, snow...etc. AND no metal involved...a little bonus.

I am wearing a pair of Rockports right now for my buisness suit. I highly recommend them. I was walking through puddles all day here in Juneau comfortably. I would get them if I were you.:rawk:
