SF Bay Area Traffic watch

Ill try to find it. It took me forever to find the company. Took a lot of airport visits and asking around.

I will tell you though, it's $10 per flight hour. And 500 hours total time "HARD" minimum.

It's Airborne Broadcast Services, out of Livermore airport. I can't find the business card the guy gave me, but if I do I'll pm you his info. They took the contract over from Five Rivers Aviation or something similar.

The 500 hr minimum is hard due to insurance. He told me $10 per hour and you would fly a couple hours in the morning and a couple in the evening (high traffic times). Some guys have full time jobs and will fly just mornings or just nights. So I guess you could make it work...I just don't live in the area and didn't want to move there for no pay!

Good luck! Ill pm if I find the other I do I gathered.

Does anyone have the contact information for a company that does traffic watch in the SF bay area?
There was a sketchy outfit out of Hayward called Viking Air or some such. I know they used to do traffic. Don't know for sure anymore.

Friends of mine who CFI at LVK have been telling me that the operation at LVK has a high turnover rate and hires pretty often.

Was a fun gig in PHX in the early '90s. Has been whittled down to a mere shell of what it once was then.

I guess at 500 hours and with another job it's cool, but not really much of time builder. Not sure what Aperture's minimums are but they must be close. I think their pay is way better, you can stay in the bay area and you get some more diverse flight time. Just my .02.

I remember hearing a traffic watch Cessna every morning in PHX when I'd launch, this winter.

I think there is one remaining. Back in my day 20 years ago, there was four or five of us if I remember right; 0600-0830 and 1600-1830, Monday through Friday. About 5.2 logged daily, give or take.

Has been mostly taken over by traffic camera systems along the freeways and surface street intersections.

There used to be a number of aircraft doing the traffic watch circuit in the Bay Area. Mind you, that was over 25 years ago. We did two hours in the morning ( 0600-0800 ) and 2.5 in the evening ( 1600-1830 ) or something close to that. Was a great supplement to flight instructing during the day for time building. We paid more than $10/hour 25 years ago. How pathetic that it is less now. Should be at least $30/hour just to account for inflation.

Fun flying anyway.

i did this with Flying Vikings about 10 years ago out of HWD and it was $10 an hour. Usually 0600-0900 and 1500-1800.

500TT hard minimum for insurance.

In that case, I can tell you which one I'd rather do. I reckon Aperture's equipment is maintained to a much more modern standard as well. I've flown enough clapped out airplanes for one lifetime.

Airborne broadcast services just threw an add up on the orange site. Still 500 tt. Hiring for SF Bay Area as well as Dallas TX.

Here's a phone number for the hiring contact:

(801) 427-8153

It's asks to apply through the orange site. But give them a call.
