I had a very plush job seeing the world from the right seat of a 767 and a 330.

Sunsets over the deserts of Iran, sunrises over Finland about to hit Metric airspace. Layovers eating "Red Red" (with goat!) in Africa to 48 hour layovers on the French Riviera with an ocean-view suite to drinking 1 Euro beers and tapas on the Costa Del Sol under the whispering palm trees on the beach — but nothing on Earth beats "command".

And when I get bored, which I will (we all do), I'll go fly bigger jets in the left seat and fatten myself on tapas, latkes and schweinehaxe.

Perhaps you can see why some guys get stuck as a lifer at Regional. They never want to give up that left seat and really have no idea what its like at the next level.

This is incrediably shortsighted. With the amount of movement going on at all the airlines, your time in undesirable bases (subjective) can be really short. Don't fall into the same trap I did. "I don't want to be on reserve in XYZ forever, screw that!"

I always thought that First Officer on a 727 would be the best gig. You got the guy behind you to do the paperwork, and the guy to the left of you to take the responsibility. "Pitot Heat" "Windshield heat" "What's to eat?"
