You're absolutely right about those power settings. When I was struggling with landings (in PA23-160), the DE said "The two most important things to remember on landing: Airspeed and Airport."

For some reason, I didn't have a big problem transitioning from the Apache to the Seneca (or the left seat to the right seat, for that matter).
Looking forward to flying the big jets, though the power settings may be a bit different!

yup I've had plenty of time to get those settings nailed down.
Actually, on calmer days I prefer to use closer to 12" on final (it's the setting they recomend in the book) gives you a realy nice stable final at 80 to 85mph (which is still nearly 30 mph over stall and 8 - 13mph over redline) and really shortens up the roll out. For "normal" landings I use 90 to 95 on final (around blueline) as it's easy to reference.
Just nail the power setting/airspeed, ride the VASI down final and it's one of the easiest airplanes in the world to land. That big old Cub airfoil just doesn't want to quit flying!

Actually, I flew the TravelAir when I was flight training in a Duchess and the TravelAir was faster and had more of a "real airplane feel" compared to the Duchess.
Then my friend purchased a Beech Baron -55 and I'd say that the TravelAir and the Baron have a similar feel.
But I'd say the Seminole is definetely a 'Twin Archer' and the Duchess is certainly a 'Twin Sierra'.
So would the Dutchess be kind of like the BE-95, Doug? Which would be the faster of the two in your opinion?

I just finished training for my CFII/MEI at ATP and I beleive the Seminole is more like the Arrow than the Archer. The seminole has the same fuselage as the Arrow. The Dutchess is as close to a Seminole in appearance as you can get because I'm told the same person designed both the Seminole and Dutchess. The Beech Sierra is merely a Beech Sundowner with retracts, constant speed prop and 20 more horses. They share the same basic airframe.

Yes, coming from a 172 it's fast. I have never flown a Baron or new Mooney so to me the Duchess is a fast/inexpensive plane.
