Sending the 737 Max8 to the Azores

I swear FedEx, UPS, United, and Delta are all gonna get together and figure out some kind of SLEP for the 757. Even the hottest A321NXLRbongo model doesn't come close for range or takeoff performance.

To get a real replacement, someone would have to make a 21st century engine with 30k-35k thrust.

Delta Sees Boeing 757s, 767s as Flex Fleets For Next Decade
The Atlanta-based carrier’s lack of mid-market clarity comes amid similar opacity at the world’s major airframers. Airbus stands by its lineup of the A321neo, which seats between 180-220 passengers in a standard two-class layout and has two longer-range derivatives, the A321LR and A321XLR, on the low end, and the A330-800 seating 220-260 passengers on the high end.

Boeing, on the other hand, has no clear mid-market answer since all but cancelling its New Mid-Market Airplane (NMA) program early in 2021. Only the 737-10, seating 188-204 passengers, and the 787-8, seating 248 passengers overlap with the segment. But while Boeing dithered, airlines — including Delta — embraced the A321neo as the de facto replacement for the 757. However, most carriers still view the A330-800 and 787-8 as “too much airplane” — or having more capabilities than needed — for the mid-market segment.

Was hoping for more Azores content. I spent a few hours there en route home from the Middle East at one point, and it seemed incredible to me. Would love to go back as a tourist sometime, to either confirm or deny that initial impression.

(NOT REAL RUMOT!)

I would not put it past Chicago Boeing to become a "development partner" on the C929, maybe license some technology and live on royalties, in exchange for being a Part 25 certification sock puppet.

Also it's time for them to drop the "7n7" scheme and embrace sidesticks. Hell, use them "active" things BAe put in the new Gulfstreams.

The MAX should have been a rock bottom.

Just to add, the A321 (including all variants) is just a garbage performer on anything more than 5-6 hours. It'll take you half that time to even reach FL340 on a full payload. Not to mention, don't expect to go past .78 either.

At one company i can think of, when the temp get hot or the loads get heavy, in come the Boeing to fix for them.
