Senator Proposes A Bill To Ban 'Gadgets' In The Cockpit

Go figure its a Democrat trying to take away a personal freedom shared by pilots, never seen this before.

On a serious note, do you think we should take away gadgets from Senators and Congressman so they aren't distracted? Maybe enforce a secretary over 200 lbs and 50 years old rule?

I see where you're going with this, and usually, I'd agree with you. However, Dorgan was my senator for 5 years, and he has been great for aviation. I for one was surprised when I saw he had proposed this, he's usually pretty good about pilot and general aviation rights.

He is the chairman of the Aviation Operations, Safety and Security Subcommittee, so as with anything in Congress, if you don't like it, let them know. http://dorgan.senate.gov/contact/

That's cool... no more calculator to figure out W&B. Say goodbye to on time performance!

(yes, REAL airplanes still have manual W&B)
that's what i'm thinking.... if pilots can't have cell phones to talk to MX or scheduling....then HELLO DELAY! :)

Plus, i guess no more GPS in the cockpit either eh?

Even the girls at Jetgirls think this is the most asinine "try to please the people" fix yet.

so...uh... off topic, what are you doing to that poor turkey? ;)

I can't wait till they take all of the autopilots out of the airplanes.

Let's actually fly for 12 hours!!! (while everyone in the back is barfing from the oscillations)!

awesome!! i think i'll be making use of that. :)

Stupid laws are enacted because of stupid people, just remember this law came out because of stupidity of those two pilots.:insane:

I'd change that a bit;

Stupid laws are enacted by stupid people because of stupid people.

This bill just shows how out of touch and worthless our elected officials are.

And yet the re-election rate is something that a banana republic dictator would envy. What does that tell you about the American people?

We're the ones putting them in there. We've only got ourselves to blame.

Just learn from folks like H.L. Mencken and P.T. Barnum and your life will become a lot easier.

Sad but true. I'm glad I do my part, it doesn't make life easier but worth it. I bet more people vote for American Idol than any other election, pathetic.

There were 97.5 million votes cast for American Idol according to this source.

According to CNN, there were about 115 million votes cast in the Presidential race last year.

So while you're off by a little, the fact that it's even close is ridiculous.

With American Idol, a voter can vote up to 3 times;), while in the Presidential election, a voter can vote only once:D

Also, there is no age restriction with American Idol, while, in the Presidential election, you need to be 18 years or older.

So, the numbers between American Idol & the Presidential election are not really as close as the stats.

Wow, that is ridiculous! But, not very surprising, I'm afraid. I'd be very curious to see what sort of overlap there is between the two.

I would be interesting to see how many Presidential voters also vote on American Idol.

As for "gadgets" in the cockpit, does the E6B on my watch count?

I don't think there is a limit on how many times you can vote.

But also, you can vote by phone, text message, and I think online for American Idol. If you could do that for the president, I think there would be a lot more turnout.

Excuse me, sir, but you will not be allowed to have your watch in the cockpit. It might prove to be a distraction. While you're at it, I will need to confiscate your bottle of water.
