I put in my application in to the FAA for Air Traffic Control Specialist Trainee...I have no college experience, however I am currently a airline pilot for american eagle. I got an email today saying congratulations you have been picked to take the AT-SAT. Is there any real chance of me getting a job as a controler since I have no college and have not gone threw any atc programes?

Absolutely! I don't even know what radar or air space is and I am going to ZFW!

You have a very good chance.

Because of an impending staffing crisis, the FAA has opened the job up to people without experience. You're already above the fray there. Also, because of the unusual nature and skill sets of the job, the FAA hasn't placed a strict educational requirement for applicants. College doesn't hurt, of course, but you don't need it to apply for this job.

If you hit a wall, it will probably be from a low ATSAT score or from expressing Geographical preferences for a state that doesn't need you.

You should have been around last week, Dallas ATC candidates had a M&G. We all had dinner, had a few drinks and talked about our applications. It was nice to see the diversity of backgrounds ... not much aviation.

If you got an AT-SAT invite, you've cleared the first hurdle - so congratulations. Like the application says, they're looking for three years of full-time college work OR three years of work experience showing progressive responsibility. Being a pilot could only work in your favor, so I think you're off to a good start.

Good luck on the AT-SAT. Like Wyopoke said, you may want to get the Green Book (Amazon), and I keep pointing people to two threads that have a lot of other information on it. And you may want to introduce yourself to the appropriate PUBNAT thread -- I'd think you're in PUBNAT4, since the rest of the 4's are getting invites right now too.

i have no clue what pubnat4 is? :nana2:

PUBNAT = Public national announcement... the application open to OTS (off the street) people like many of us here. They're numbered, with PUBNAT1 closing in February, PUBNAT2 and 3 in May, and so on. If you're getting an AT-SAT invite right now, you're probably PUBNAT4 -- look on ASAP at your completed applications and it'll tell you which one you're in.
