See and avoid...near mid-air

Yeowwwch that was close!!!!! T-38C doing about 350 kts at 1500' MSL barely misses what looks to have been a Cirrus.

Barely is to say the least. You think the other plane even saw it or no? I guess something coming up off your right side at 350kts would be kinda hard to keep track of.

You would think those government jets would have all those nice " bells and whistle's " , like TCAS or something.

What was that, like 10 to 15 feet ?

holy crap! ya i would think that they would have TCAS but apparently not because i have seen a few videos of different military aircraft with near midairs with GA aircraft.

I don't know if the new C-models have TCAS (I can find out), but the A models didn't.

I was once in a similar (though MUCH slower) situation. I was teaching slow flight in a T-41 (souped up C-172), and a plane approached from my left behind the "A-bar" on the left of the windscreen. We passed within about 30-40' of each other--close enough that I heard his engine. No one was at fault. We were both clearing. But we almost both died. The scariest flying experience I've had in over 20 yrs of flying.

I've been told by Luke Approach here in PHX that our Cirrus' are harder to pick up on the F-16's scope than a Cessna or something because of the composite construction....even harder to see the F-16's on the Cirrus' TCAS btw.
