Second Class Flight Medical vs. ATC Medical

If I currently hold a second class medical for my pilot's license would I have to retake another medical for becoming a controller?

Are the medicals the same?

For non-Faa ATC, they are the same.

For FAA ATC, the FAA has designated specific AME's to perform the ATC medical exams. The exam is the same but the medical disqualifiers are a little different. If you need a FAA ATC medical, it is good for the airman's privileges though.

Could you explain the differences between the ATC and Airmen 1st Class medical. I'm currently holding a 1st class Airmen (thank you FAA for extending them to 1yr for us young folk).

If you are under 40, there is no difference (except for the EKG at 35).
