Seattle, WA and San Fran, CA - How hard is it to get picked?

Hi,
I took the AT-SAT last week and obtained a score of 95.8% [HIGHLY QUALIFIED]. I am planning on putting Seattle, Washington, San Fran, California and Atl, Georgia down as my preferences. From reading the previous post I believe I can probably count Georgia out, but what do you guys think my chances are for getting Seattle or California [San Fran]??? Also...do they let you choose the actual cities or do you simply pick the state and they send you to whatever city they want you to go to?

Also ..I am kind interested in the U.S. Territories [ Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam ...if you have any info on those then please share. ]

I was actually accepted at the Seattle Center (I actually live about 5 miles from it :D) and they are definitly in need of some controllers. I know a couple of the people that work there and one of them showed me the list of people who are going to be retiring. Its actually a little frightening... I dunno about California though, they probably need you just as bad down there.

SFO will be one of my choices too, if I ever get the geo pref email (pubnat3 here).

If you are lucky enough to get SFO, just remember that only the tourists call the city "San Fran." The rest of us call it "San Francisco." :)

It rains a lot :) But when it's nice, it's really really nice.

I got SEA tower. Congrats! I've toured ZSE a few times, nice setup there. Pretty new DSR room. I'm living down in Graham right now but will probably be living in Puyallup when I get back from OKC (if I ever get a date). 5 miles from Auburn in which direction?

Ya know, Seattle really isn't that bad. I personally wouldn't live anywhere else in the country. Where else do you have a great view of a beautiful mountain, you can take a day trip to the ocean, doesn't get too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, and a Starbucks around every corner? ;) I love it here!

Indeed! Can't argue that! :yeahthat: But anyways, I like California. It definitly has its high points. But I think people in Seattle are a little nicer and I think a little more mellow. I think the constant rain humbles us a little bit... haha!

I don't think it would be hard for them to be nicer. In CA we are all a bunch of #####.

Congratulations on your score.

We might bump into each other sometime in the future, those are three places that I'd like to end up at myself. I visited the Seattle Center a couple of weeks ago and it seemed like a great place to be at. The people were friendly, acted like they wanted you to be a part of their team. Really left a good impression on me.

And it's caddy corner to an Indian casino, so, you know, win-win. Or something.

To answer your question on preferences -- because I don't think it has been yet, although I might've skipped over it -- you can specify two states in a pulldown menu, or choose "Throughout the Nation". Each state has a comment box where you can be more specific. So, for example, if you picked Washington, in the box you could put "Seattle". You can also specify Terminal, Center, or Either.

I was told that the FAA is a little weary of putting people in high expense areas like SFO and the bay area if you arent already in the area. The reasoning being that people get out there and realize they can't afford it on the new pay scale and then either try to transfer or just drop out, thus wasting the govt's time and money...Anyway, thats just what I was told, doesn't mean it's law or anything.

Space needle? bah! We have the worlds largest half completed McDonalds sign here in St. Louis!

Also, besides a military base, a FAA center and a Macys, what is in guam that makes people actually want to go there. I was under the impression that it isn't the kind of nice beaches you would find in Hawaii
