Seattle area flight training...

Long story short I recentely moved out to the Seattle area (Auburn) and am trying to get back into flying. I did a search for flight school reviews on the forums here and it seemed a lot of the threads I found were dated. Anyways, the 2 schools I had in mind was Pavco at Tacoma Narrows and the other is Galvin at Boeing Field. Getting back into it I'd prefer to fly the 172 over other aircraft I don't have much experience in... Any thoughts or tips would be great. Ha, that's to bad ATP left years ago. It would be nice to find a place that has newer Seminoles.

Galvin was very expensive when I was learning to fly at BFI in the mid 90s. A quality school, but not where I'd pick if I cared about value for money.

That's my main issue... I feel like I would be getting less value spending more time trying to get in and out of the Seattle class bravo and less time doing other stuff. Don't get me wrong it seems like a top notch quality school and I'm still torn which would be better or if there's other places around.

I used to do my training at Galvin as well and in the late '90's a 152 was about $100. I couldn't imagine what they charge now!

Pavco is a good school but you have to deal with the bridges being in auburn.

There is Proflight in Renton which would be much closer and they seem to be fairly good. http://www.flyproflight.com/

Crest Airpark even closer to where you are is another good bet. They are all top instuctors there as well.

Boeing Field is class D so you don't have to worry about the Class B stuff. You do however have to wait awhile in line to takeoff

Ture, I was just getting at ducking under the shelves and dealing with their departure/arrival procedures on a regular basis. I flew there once and the amount of time it took to get to the pratice area reminded me of flying out of a class C airport even though boeing is just a class D.

How far can commute for training? I instruct out of KAWO (Arlington), but it would be about 45min drive or so. Our 172s rent for about $120 wet, $55 for instruction. A few of my students live a ways away, but Auburn might be the farthest.

You should check out Crest S36 (Kent), much closer.

Yeah, I wish I could communte up there but that is too far, sorry. Espically with Seattle traffic. Anyone know the name of the school at Crest?

If you're looking at TIW, think about going a little bit north to PWT--Avian's cheap and provides great instruction.

Also if you have any connection to Boeing BEFA is great to fly with. I also think there is another way to join if you don't have any connection to Boeing.
