Seatbelt sign rant time

Second who really cares. I like shop talk and getting all the ins and out of the industry but its getting to the point of a bunch of elderly women gossiping about how other people are doing their jobs. Goto work, do what you think is right, and go home. If someone else does it differently ask them why they did it that way. Im sure all of them will have some sort of valid reason. We should all know better than to sit in row 13A and critique a crews actions when we know nothing of what is going on up front. There very well may have been reports of chop ahead that you just didn't get into for whatever reasons on this flight. They may have just been a crap crew, who knows but I wasn't up there and don't know what went into the decision to leave the signs on so I am not going to pass any judgement.

I agree 99%, except for the crap crew part. Over a seat belt sign?

Its becoming a pet peeve of mine because it seems like its forgotten a lot, but since I've never had one (Fasten Seatbelt Sign) I ask if its smooth in cruise to turn it off.

Well, I had typed a few paragraphs of jibberish but I think I can sum it up better by just saying I agree with Seggy.

Ha...speaking of seat belt signs. Today we're flying from PHL-MCI (Kansas City) at FL340. Just as we level off, I asked the Captain about the sign. He said to leave it on for a few minutes to let the FA's get their stuff together. About 10 minutes passed and then airplanes up ahead started reporting continuous light to moderate chop. Then we hit it!

We got rocked pretty damn good the remaining 2 hours. Couldn't go higher with the performance numbers we had (full boat), lower wasn't any better. Same thing on the way back but we went down to FL270 and things were tolerable, but we kept the signs on because random moderate turbulance jumped up a few times.

Made me think of this thread. :)

He wishes it was an Airbus.

Not true. It would be nice, along with a mainline number, but honestly I think I'd rather be flying good equipment at a Regional right now then sitting at the bottom of a mainline list just waiting for a merger to dump my number.

I'd rather be furloughed from a mainline carrier awaiting eventual recall than flying "good" Embraer equipment.

Congratulations. Someone has finally broken the secret code. Regionals weren't/aren't meant to be a career destination.

It is part of the E180 series of aircraft.

You know how his airplane and your airplane are alike?

They both say 'US Airways Express' on the side.

You know how they're different?

They're not trying to get rid of HIS airplane.

When I met you, I looked up to you. I'm having a hard time doing that these days.

Sorry Nick, but I'd rather be putting food on my family's table, and thats the view of many of those "lifers" at this company. They've watched their friends go through furlough after furlough, sometimes even coming over here under a J4J program, of which many have decided to stay here.

I would like to retire at a Major, but honestly watching the course of events taking place at the next level, I have no desire to get into that mess anytime soon.

Why, because I speak my mind? You know I had these views when I met you a year ago.

You're a good guy Mark, but sometimes you go over the top with the RJ thing. Like the funny pictures you sent me in the text msg. Yeah they were funny, but then posting all these rants here directly aimed at the company and the airplane?
I could easily do the same about Colgan's Q400 and how you have just as many seats as I do yet your pay isn't close to ours. Just because a 76 seat turbo prop has props instead of fans, that makes its OK to be at a Regional?

Its all a waste of time! Its like two kids in the sand box throwing sand back and forth in each others faces. It doesn't matter how much sand you throw in the dudes face, you're still sitting in sand!

We might fly larger aircraft over here, but thats because we have an aggressive CEO who seizes opportunity and turns a profit. Rather than sell out the competition with cut rate wages and fares. We might not have the best contract here, but our work rules are pretty good and the wages are soon to follow. Really you're only gripe is the fact that we fly 76 seat airplanes with Turbo FANS in stead of props. Which is silly. RJ's didn't destruct the industry, it was the pilots that refused to fly them.

You'll soon be doing the same thing as us on that Q400- boarding 76 Pax, clickin the autopilot above 10,000 and reading USA today. ;)
