Search function / Lav

The search function apparently doesn't pick up any posts from the Lav. I presume that's because it's a "members only" forum?

Correcto.

This is such a pain.

what are you trying to find? do you remember the date?
It's more of a rant-in-general. I bet I run into this search limitation a couple of times a month, at least. Usually it isn't anything very important, just something I want to refer back to, and it's frustrating to not be able to find it.

I triggered it again this morning 'cause I was trying to remember a semi-smart-aleck comment I made towards CapnJim a day or two ago, and since then he has been on a roll with the "...is teh s uck" routine. I tried to search for my own posts, but none of them in the Lav show up so I can't even find schtuff I've written...although maybe that is a good thing. :)

Ok I give up. I've been searching for a post that compared the daily diaries of a cat and a dog. The dog is happy about everything and the cat is conspiring to kill its master.

No luck.

Anyone know where it is?

I'm trying to find where I first used the word "Kingairism", including the *definition*, but it must be in the Lav.....no findie postie.

:(

I think i've seen it in general topics....but i know i've seen it somewhere and quite recently too

I was not looking for any use of the word, I was looking for the first use. And it can't be found without being able to search the Lav.

.

All right, now I'm trying to find a thread (earlier this year I believe) about Washburn guitars. I actually bought one based on that thread, but there was some other information in there that I'd like to read again.

Again, it must be in the Lav 'cause my search is coming up empty.

Can a mod/admin find it for me???

Thanks!

Forums that aren't publically available (without logging in) don't get indexed in the forum search.

There's no feature within the software to enable a workaround without some php tweaking which I have no skills to perform.

Attached is a database dump of the first thirty occurences of "washburn" and the parts that might help you find the post are the postid and threadid tags which refer to post numbers and tread numbers respectively.

Happy hunting! ;)

I understand the problem. Thus my complaints. :D

You trying to tell me that my continued complaints won't do any good???

That's all right. I'm not easily discouraged. :D

That's more like the first ten occurences, not thirty, but I'm not complaining!

:)

Naw, really, I appreciate the effort. Found exactly what I was looking for, too. Thanks!

You can stand down now. ;)

Whoops, I thought I checked the thirty box.

It's really wacky why if you have permission to read/post in a non-public forum that you're not able to run a search. Maybe you do, but lemme finish arguing with another user about organized labor and I'll have another look-see.

Hey! How about a little prioritizing around this joint, eh???

:D

That's all right. I'm following along the union thread as well.

:insane:

It looks like I do, in fact, have a way of adding "The Lavatory" to the search index for those with access, but no method of disabling those without access from seeing search results that include results from the Lavatory.

Hmm...

Do you need to give non-access personnel access to the search function in the first place?

(edit to add: nice cohesive straight-forward sentence structure there, Steve)

I would think it would be important for guest/non-users to have the ability to search the forums.
