Scratch one F18 -Truman (no crash)

Probably not terribly easy to jump out of with the canopy in the way and the main wheel about to run you over. Depending on which way it was going of course.

Canopy would at least normally be fully open. They yell at each other and use whistle signals during the towing evolutions/aircraft movements, so they need to be able to hear. If I were a betting man, the thing rolled off backwards

The only thing I've flown with a canopy was a glider and it hinged over to the side. IIRC. It wasn't terribly easy to get in and out of. I'm guessing the F18 isn't terribly easy to get in and out of as well since that's not what it's designed to do. Unlike a 737 of course lol.

It is a powered canopy with a mechanical actuator, so you just open/close it with an internal cockpit switch, or you can also open it with a switch near the boarding ladder inside an easy access panel on the exterior of the aircraft from the ground. My point was just that the canopy was likely already in the full up position. It's pretty easy to get in and out of, especially single seat aircraft like this one, or the front seat of the family model. You have to duck down a little to get in and out of the back, but there aren't brakes back there :)

To your point though, the hard part of getting down is that it is a long jump down from the LEX, and especially so onto a steel hangar bay deck. It would be hard to not break something, even if you weren't doing it under duress with a moving aircraft.

I do find the 737 flight deck a pain in the ass to get in and out of. Don't know how many times ive hit my head on that stupid overhead panel, and half the seats are a struggle to slide aft/over. I would actually argue it is more difficult to get in and out of than a fighter aircraft. Though there aren't nearly as many things you have to connect up to once seated of course

Are you the guy that keeps leaving the FO seat full back so I can’t get my bag in?

How about the guy who goes full up? Or gal maybe? Rudders pedals fully extended towards you. Since we are talking about comparison to F/A-18, this is akin to the person who extends the lumbar support extender (only people who use it are tiny people) which is fully impossible to reset once you are in the seat. So you have to unstrap and get back out. Terrorists

I’m one of those people you’re describing here, seriously I’m one of those who has to jump up to get in the seat, and I hardly ever ricochet off of the overhead panel doing it.

Sometimes it’s good to be the short person!
🙂

Not yet.....I believe it is. If not I am sure it has been 'disassembled' in some fashion. You could google the plane previous incident where they lost the f18 to FF in december.... Honestly don't recall though....
Cool! I would just think that it had to be recovered, so that some other government doesn't recover it and tear it apart and learn its secrets.

Hence...disassembled in some fashion.... ;-) I mean they know exactly where it went in. I would think it is similar to losing a helo behind enemy lines. certain control-alt-delete functions occur then it may likely be destroyed with a munition of choosing.
