Scenic (again)

Yea, with that type of pay, your in it for 4 months tod until you can apply at a regional.

Probably going to apply though after I get my me com. What's the price of a cheap place out there?

-Rob

it'd be cool if couple of us applied there and all rented a 3 bedroom apt or something :D

My instructor at Skymates got offered the job at Scenic. He had to turn it down b/c he couldn't afford an apartment in a decent part of town, and moving there would exhaust all of his savings. He wound up sticking around and instructing for about another 6 months.

you can get a room for $500/mo.
you can find 3 bedroom houses for $1200 a month if you have cool friends.

When I did my CSEL at Shebles in Henderson, my flight instructor was planning on moving to scenic. Evidently his plan was to work there and in a few months, upgrade to captain, and then apply to SW in a year or so. Seemed like a logical plan.

Doesnt SW require some Turbine time in heavier aircraft?

Schedule: You bid on hard lines a month a t time. In reality you're just bidding on days off as you don't know what your doing/flying until 4 p.m. the day before. It's essentially permanent reserve. It's not too bad until the busy season hits then it kinda sucks. The individual work day can get very long. 8+ hours of fly and 14 hour duty days are common in the summer. And it's hot - 49C w/o airconditioning (up front) gets old quick.

Jumpseats: They have reciprocals with about 30 airlines. SWA included. People commute to Scenic. It's not a traditional commute but a lot of people do/have done it.

Must be rough, thanks for the info. It would be a good place to get in with low time though.....

Some low-time people don't feel ready for a jet. For people used to flying Seminoles, Scenic would provide a good transition to flying passengers in a crew environment in a multi-engine turbine aircraft. IMHO, anyway.

thats a goodp point. good transition.

I'm kind of considering this gig.

Does anybody know how many hours FOs fly in an average month?

You know, at about $15K / year, that's below the poverty line. But, I guess you learn to be frugal or you find ways to be resourceful and have more than one source of income.

I was planning to do just that. At 800 hours or so, I really don't feel ready to fly a CRJ.

What were his times???

He was over 1000 with around 400 ME. Keep in mind that this was summer/early fall of 05, so the mad hiring at the regionals was still about at least 6-7 months away. Last time I talked to him, he was flying a Falcon for a corporate outfit. We both wound up getting out of instructing in the same week.

Nope. It's just a TPIC requirement. jetBlue is the one that requires the TPIC in a specific size aircraft.

I know some FOs at SWA that got their TPIC in a Caravan, but they've changed their mins since then to state that it has to be multi-engine.

Does anyone know about the preinterview sim prep. Heard people talking about it but no details? Also has anyone been hired recently. I have an interview date and want to know what to expect.
THanks
