Saw the Blues Today

Sneaker pass gets me every time :) At Miramar they were doing this SH rejoin right over the airshow ramp, with the dudes coming from the sides pulling some massive G's on the join. Real cool to watch

A-4s were better. F-4s rocked.

Never saw F-4's, but the A-4 was definitely cool to watch. No high alpha pass though.......that is eye opening to do for the first time, especially at 35 AoA. Indicated airspeed like a cessna at full flaps, in controlled flight in a climb no less :)
 
My friend wrote a magazine article for a pilots magazine and spent 2 days with the Blues at El Centro. He said they fly the oldest most worn out airframes in the fleet. I guess it makes sense that the good stuff is war ready.

He also said they were really weird, almost anal, about signing releases and what pictures they were allowed to publish. Even had them delete pictures from a digital camera when someone got out of step marching to their planes.

Yeah they were flying Alphas for a long time....think I heard that they recently upgraded to charlies, but I'm not sure if that is true. Looking in the cockpit of just about any A or B these days reminds you of how old they are. That being said, they generally fly nicely, aside from not having all the gucci electronic gear that the newer jets have.

I wonder how much longer the teams would've kept their F-4s had the oil price problems with OPEC not happened?

The Blue Angels get the same deal as the Marine One helo squadron.

They have absolute priority when it comes to parts, but are dead last when it comes to upgrades. At HMX-1 we had terrific support when we needed parts, and in fact could steal parts from anybody.
