Saw a blimp the other day.

I was doing my back and forths the other day and saw a blimp puttering along. How close can I fly to the blimp to get a air to air photo?

Got my camera ready and if he comes back this way, I want to be ready.

Missed out on a good opportunity a couple of years back in MKC on getting a good picture of the blimp that was in town for the NASCAR race.

It was moored on the field when I was going through that night. I was impressed at the overall size of the blimp. Not to mention thrilled about having a HUGE windsock! :D

Yes they do. We have had the Outback blimp come in two or three times a year this year and the last for football games. I have also seen Snoopy and flew over the Good Year before. They are amazing to look at from the air.

You would begin to hate blimps real quick if you had to fly out of the same airport as them. I must admit it is funny to be out in the practice area with the Goodyear blimp. I'll never forget the day when the Goodyear blimp fell from the sky down here.

Flying in Akron seeing the blimp is an almost daily occurrence, turning base to final underneath it is actually sorta fun.

As for the engines getting cooled, the ones on the Spirit of Akron are the same as the pusher off of a Cessna 337, so maybe it's not used to being cool anyway ;) . We actually toured the hangar once (with the blimp in it), and I must say it is quite the neat operation.

What happened?

A blimp certainly made my top ten list...
It was the night Mark McGuire hit his 70th home run as everyone was almost done leaving, and the airship had to cross the runway at low alt to land:

CPS Twr: Bud 1, can you extend downwind or reduce speed for the 4 departures at the runway ready to go?
BUD1: Umm, sure ... but I don't think I've EVER been asked to SLOW DOWN before!

Wow, that looks like some pretty nasty weather for the ship to be out in. From the looks of things though, it could have easily been worse than the results.

I was doing some flight instructing at Marina (OAR) over the past few days. On Saturday, OAR became the tie down for the attached. It was a great windsock!!!!!

One of the Goodyear airships landed here at Fort Pierce last night, It approached from south along the beach. Must have been down in Miami? It was sitting just off runway 9 in the grass this morning when I took off for St. Pete. Sure makes a great wind sock:D
