Ok well Im at a point in my training where im trying to decide if I should get all my instructor ratings OR stick with commercial and try and find a job. Id love instructing it is however about 10,000 to get all my ratings, I would have a job after that making basically nothing. If I stopped after doing my comm single/comm multi id have about 300 hrs and about 140 multi im not sure if that will land you an entry level job. Im looking to get as much PIC time as possible So I can go back to canada and be competitive to apply to Westjet or Possibly a regional/charter to gain some crew/PAX expierience...

Any advice would be great, Currently in central florida...

I was looking for the sarcasm tags, but I couldn't find them.

This is a no brainer, get your CFI and instruct.

I think I would really enjoy instructing, All my friends back home most of them took a different route to the regionals doing VFR PIC time in small Singles, Thats why I was wondering, as well it doesnt seem like there are low time jobs down here like there are in canada...

My guess is you could make more money instructing than in most entry level single engine jobs that you would qualify for. With that in mind, the pay issue isn't an issue. Get your instructor ratings.

Ya its not about pay, just trying to get around 1500 PIC to get me competitive. The part I looked at is if instruct here I get a lot of multi and a lot of instrument/Actual compared to 0 if I flew a entry level VFR job.

Thanks for the input just looking at all the options with my 10 G's haha

Like I said ... you can get your ratings for 6 G's ... then give me the other four as a finder fee ... then I can knock out my instrument rating :D

I don't know of any VFR jobs available below 500TT and thats part 91 stuff. You'd be hard pressed to get anything with less than that....unless I'm missing somethin.

Trust me...get the CFI. You never know when this industry will go downhill again, or Canada's will go downhill.

you say you will have 140 multi? I would suggest getting your cfi/cfii/mei and instruct for at least 6 months. The experience looks good in the logbook. Get yourself to 1000/200 at least and you can get a regional job. If you need the 1500 then get the 1000/200 instructing and go banner tow for a summer. Now you have your 1500/200. Obviously more multi is better but I know people are getting hired at 1000/200 with instructing experience.

becoming an instructor will also make you a better pilot

*could* make you a better pilot - all depends on how you go about your training and job. There's plently of outstanding pilots who've never instructed, and plenty of instructor's who have no business doing it.

thats true, i know for a fact though that i have become a better pilot, so i guess i was just speaking from experience (although i have no dual given yet, i was just speaking of my skills)

Medical school could make you a better doctor too. But plenty of people practice self-diagnosis and self-medication with varying degrees of success.

My father used to have the ole fatherly advice, most of the time I tuned him out, but I remember these 2 tidbits.

1. Its not WHAT you know, but WHO you know.

2. Be careful how you treat people on your way up.....in case you meet then again later on the way down.

That and some crap about everything I was gonna do, or try he had already done and forgotten about BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!

We like to try to forget about that one - regardless of the level of truth to it!!:D

I don't know, but words like Truth and other statements like "trust me" (txpilot)just don't seem appropriate for a forum like this. We are talking about aspiring aviators who pretty much have it all figured out and really don't need those of us with life's experience "telling" them what to do. I think we should keep this a feel good board and just coddle people along in thier disallusioned state of mind.

Besides you can't handle the Truth!

thanks everyone for the insight, I allready have the instructor writtens done the ground instructor and the II. Im going to go ahead and get all my ratings and instruct here. Just wanted to know all the options I think I will like instructing but im not sure if ill be good because I get very paranoid when people lack situational awareness when I'm flying with them...
