Sat in Doug's Seat on Saturday

Re: What!!!! no your kidding me....right???

Actually, 757 sucks from the FA standpoint too! The never-ending main cabin aisle SUCKS, and the 1st class aisle & galley FAs are always getting in each others way.

The ONLY good thing about it is the aft galley, it's huge with lots of space to move & work.

You know what's funny, is that the 757 kills the MD-88 pilot-wise. But passenger comfort-wise, the 757 is probably the worst aircraft on earth.

Did she really say that? Man, that is almost too good to be true.

Just put in a bid this afternoon for LAX 757/767 so we'll see what happens.

Holy crap Doug! This is big news! I thought you weren't wanting to switch equipment for the time being. Wow! Best of luck on this!

How many exclamation points can I use in one post!

Re: What!!!! no your kidding me....right???

Well, I didn't get it so no news yet!

I guess in the airline business, no news is good news.

Re: What!!!! no your kidding me....right???

Doug, how long does it usually take after you bid to get a reply? And, I know this question is probably asked frequently, but from your bid to actually sitting in the right seat on your first flight, how long is the total process?

Re: What!!!! no your kidding me....right???

Bill flew the 75/76 for TWA. He loved it and desparately wants to get back to it some day. At TWA they even gave types (everyone flew as an IRO at some point), so he's got a B757 & B767 type on his cert.

When does the bid come out?

Good luck!

Yeah. I just meant that I didn't know you were thinking this seriously about mixing it up right now. Last I remember you weren't feeling like switching aircraft any time soon. So, well, I'm excited anyway. Hope this works out for you. Keep us posted. Posted? I guess that could be construed as some kind of pun, but only a really lame one.

Why does it always seem the pilot's favorite planes to fly are the most uncomfortable for pax/fas?

Well it kind of works like this. There's a bid posted on (theoretically) January 1st. The bid closes January 10th and usually the results are posted by the 14th. It can take a month to four months to be scheduled for training, and then another month of ground school/simulator training/IOE to finally be a 'regular joe'.

The most senior people get the training slots first.

Then there was the Shorts. Loved by everyone who flew, worked, & rode in it. Just as long as you didn't have to look at it for too long!

Re: Sat in Doug\'s Seat on Saturday

I'm flying back tomorrow...

SAV - ATL - BOS, MD-88 and 767.

I hope to make it to the cockpit again. I'll let you all know if anything *exciting* happens.

Re: Sat in Doug\'s Seat on Saturday

I think it's funny in this thread, the "Do you know Doug Taylor?" questions. So I'm riding the employee shuttle to the terminal at MDW, chatting with a very nice SWA FO. He mentions flying at Skyway, and I ask him when he left. He says "Ah, around '99." So I ask him if he knows Doug, and sure as hell he does!

Small world aviation is, isn't it!
