Hey Jess, just tell them you lost your log book, and are working closely with the FSDO to resolve this problem asap! In the mean time tell them your 560hrs tt should be good enough for any beach bunnie, you just gotta invite me it least to come along for the ride. I'll be the tour guy while your busy answering radio calls, avoiding bird strikes, and looking for traffic:D

Sounds fun. Sent them a resume. If they need someone part time I would love to do it. Thanks for the posting.

I instructed at KSEE a year or so ago. During my short time there I saw a girl kill herself: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief2.asp?ev_id=20070214X00191&ntsbno=LAX07LA067&akey=1

and a guy run out of gas and land on a freeway. Unfortunately these both turned out to be pilot error. If you do it great but realize that there isn't much room for error when you are flying a 150 with a huge banner on the back.

45 degrees nose up??? In a 150? Am I missing something???

Of course you were just there and probably have no idea, just thinking "out loud".

I remember watching Joe's green and yellow stearman as a kid. He's been around for a while. Back in when I worked at Gillespie (00'-02'), there were two banner operators, Banner Joe and Air Ads. During that time, Air Ads had no accidents, whereas Joe had two. Make of it what you will. Maybe his operation has improved in the past few years.

Just another day at KSEE unfortunately.

Jeez. What happened out at Gillespie? When I was there nothing ever happened. Maybe once a year someone came in gear up or something. Of course back then there weren't as many flight schools on the airport either. Maybe that has something to do with the rise of accidents.

Talked to these guys yesterday. Apparently they really need pilots, so I would apply even if you don't have 500TT. I sent them an application over a year ago when I had about 300TT and never heard anything, until about a week ago I got a reply from that same email saying to call him. So I'm assuming 300TT would be ok!

Gave them a call. I currently have 460 TT. They want you to pay $2900 for their training program (10-20 hours ground & 10-15 hours a/c). Sounds a little steep to me. What does everyone else think? Anyone else talked to them and have any feedback?

Not something you should have to pay for.

They seriously want you to pay for them to train you to work for them?

After reading the accident report and seeing how they pick up the banner, I'm thinking I'll scratch "banner towing" off my list of things to do....

I don't mean to defend them in any way, but are you going to scratch flying IFR aswell?

Picking up banners has been done safely thousands of times, like everything flying you have to manage the risk.

I see what you're saying...nope, not afraid of IFR...studying ground for IFR now.

It's just that the procedure they go through sounded pretty hairy....slow flight, low flight, pitch up...yikes! Guess I should go watch it being done....

There are countless accidents involving banner towing. Like someone said earlier, the margin for error in banner towing is much less than other types of flying.

I personally wouldn't do this kind of flying due to the accident history involving this type of activity.

It sure does sound like an accident waiting to happen reading the NTSB report about how they grab the banner.
