Same day passport renewal NY

Anyone do a same day passport renewal in the NYC/Long Island Area? Any recommendations? I'm coming up on the 6 months to expiration. My understanding is you need an appointment, a letter from company (CP office said they'd write the letter once I had the appointment) and company ID. Don't feel like trekking into Manhattan to deal with government paperwork on a precious day off, but such seems to be the case. I actually have no international trips this month and August so I'm tempted to just use the 2 week thing but I want to see if there are any painless experiences out there. Thx.

I walked in to the Manhattan office with my company ID and got it done same day. Just go early to drop it off, and go back before they close to pick it up. Easy.

No matter what time your appointment, they'll tell you to come back to pick it up at a set time (3:00 maybe?). Therefore a 10:30 appointment is going to be better for you than an 8:00 appointment. You can book an appointment by phone 14 days in advance, and last year I had to do it exactly 14 days ahead to get a slot.

I just did this last week.

It was the Buffalo office but I would think its the same everywhere.

You should get a letter from your employer, It may not be required but a good idea. I made my appointment over the phone with their automated system, That part took about 10 min. I didn't want to make it online as they ask for a date for international travel and didn't want to lie.

Show up to the passport office with all your required paperwork, you will need to get a passport photo taken BEFORE you arrive, many drug stores can do this, a google search will help, I found a coupon for Rite Aid, got the picture for $7. I was at the office for maybe 15-20 min, you will have to pay the passport fee $110, and the expedite fee $60. Go in the morning and you can then wait till the afternoon (3pm at the BUF office) and get a new passport the same day, or they can mail it by snail mail you'll have it in a few days, or you can have it overnighted for $15.95 and will it will ship out the next business day.

Overall it was a pretty painless process but if you want/need it quick it's the only way.

Also for $30 more you can get a passport card, it won't work for clearing customs by air travel, you will still need the book for that, but I keep it with my ID badge holder, a little more convenient for getting thru TSA IMO.

Philly was great. 9am appointment, was done by 9:30 with instructions to return at 1:30. Ate my way around the city, returned at 1:30 and was on my way home to Virginia by 2. Everyone was super friendly, professional, and quick.

The letter from the company seemed to be important.

That part of town has tons to do...and, as you found out, plenty deliciousness to eat as well.

Several years ago I used a courier service to do the walk-in, with overnights or 2-day air you can get it all done in the same week, if you have enough time off for that it might salvage some of your days off.
