Salt Lake City

slc is beautiful. the mountains rock. Adulthood is outlawed in Utah.
The beer in the liquor stores is very overpriced. Makes the drive to Evanston, Wyo. worthwhile. There is plenty to do at night and people are pretty friendly. Cost of living is cheaper than most..There is mtn biking all over the place. Skiing is tops.
Adios

I live in Provo, UT which is a 1/2 hour south of SLC. Even though I can't stand Mormons (kind of ironic seeing how my gf is one, but I digress...), I still love living here. SLC is much better than living down here in Utah County. Its ultra-conservative, but the beauty-alone is definitely worth it. The skiing and mountain biking are second-to-none. Its a relatively clean place to live and I enjoy it. I would recommend living here.

How is life in the Happy Valley?

What is this "drive to Evanston" you speak of? You do know there's an airport there, right? :D

Come on in, Marsh; the water's fine. I lived in SLC for 28 years before running away to Cali, but having been back for a year and a half, I have to admit the place doesn't annoy me as much as it used to. The Olympics had a big effect on the town, as has immigration; the place is a lot more cosmopolitan than it used to be, and the Mormons are actually poised to lose their majority over the next several years, if recent trends continue. And like herr webmeister said, Park City, Colorado is only 30 minutes up the canyon.

Besides, those BE99s will fatten up that multi turbine PIC column in your logbook nicely.

Want to have fun in Salt Lake ? Go to a convenience store downtown (the closer to the temple the better) , walk in looking confused and ask if anyone knows where a strip club is.......

Yaaawwwwnnnnn......... been there done that. Ask for a gay strip club if you really want the shock factor.

There is a lot of talk in this thread regarding beer. If you are moving here for just beer don't come. If you are looking for a clean place, for fairly cheap, and you love the outdoors you can't go wrong. Everything here minus surfing.

As far as importing beer, funny story. When the olympics were here the Chezch rep. was importing beer. The state found out and there was serious trouble. So they hired my ole man to represent them and bail them out. Besides paying him his attorney fees they gave him a free beer card for the Chezch Rep. olympic house.

What do you mean adulthood is illigal here? Utah is not a bad place and you don't even notice the mormons. Lots of good skiing and hot girls. Beer is okay and the strip clubs are not bad. If they only had a place to surf it would be perfect. Weather sucks goes from hot to cold not much inbetween. And why are mormons annoying? All of the ones I have met have always been nice.

They suspended the rest of the liquor laws for the Olympics, why not that one? Oh that's right, cuz the state makes a FORTUNE off liquor sales....

I know there's a lot of SLC people on here. Mind if I pick your brains?)

Considering bidding it, just trying to find out some more about the area itself. Thanks!

Hot girls that won't date you if you're not an "RM" or don't have a temple recommend in your back pocket. Mormons are very against dating outside their religion...which is why you have to kidnap them when they're young and take them into the hills or San Diego. :D

(JayAre...you didn't happen to be at Port o' Call with a dude named Jeff last Friday, were you?)

Well, I think UT isn't too bad. I live in SLC downtown area and there's lots of clubs and bars within my walkin distance. Plus Airport is only 10 minutes away from me, So It makes the morning flights really easy ( you get more sleep )
The Beer Sucks but the girls are damn hot. If you're here on a Wednesday night, make sure you visit Club Vortex ( Ladies night baby ).
And about the Mormon girls :D well you just need to do a little research on them :D They claim that they don't drink but take them to a party and you'll find them drinking shot after another in no time :D

Thanks for all the info. everyone.

Sounds like a decent place to live. I don't have a problem with mormons or not drinking, so I think I'd be just fine. Plus having really good skiing and riding nearby for the first time in my life sounds awesome. I really do like it where I am now, but SLC would probably be a better career move. Since I really haven't been here long, I guess moving wouldn't be the end of the world (no "roots"). I've still got a couple of months to ponder it, too. In the meantime, maybe I'll come pay a visit one weekend and check out the area.

Thanks again! :)

Forgot to mention the biggest plus to the SLC: we've got one of the most active JC social scenes outside of NJC! :nana2:

Naaaaah...your either beat by us PHX peeps or tied.LOTS JC'ers in the PHX and surrounding valley. And the Taylors actually let the "surfs" visit the castle once in awhile.

Hahahaha...kidding D&K are some of the most humble peeps I know!

I dunno man, the SLC crew has gotten together probably 5 or 6 times in the last two years. Can you guys top that?

And D&K have to be humble to compensate for you! :D

Funny! Matt you never called back to use my plane wtf.

As far as mormon girls there are lots of half and half ones at UVSC. We are just like anybody else, there are super religious and not so religious ones.
