Salt Lake City

I know there's a lot of SLC people on here. Mind if I pick your brains? :)

How do you like it there? What's the cost of living like? Are there decent areas near the airport? Is the alcohol really watered down (just kidding... kinda)? What's the weather like? I've been there before, but only very briefly, so I don't know much at all about it. Any other input would be great!

I ski and mountain bike, so that's one big reason SLC is attractive to me.

Considering bidding it, just trying to find out some more about the area itself. Thanks!

The beer takes a little getting used to as do the weird laws surrounding alcohol. But the guys that I know that in Sodom and Gam...whoops, Park City seem to swear by it.

Not exaaaactly.

Not to say that it doesn't happen, but errr, it's not exactly legal.

Oh well. I can't let that be something that keeps me from moving there I guess. :p I'm sure my liver wouldn't mind.

The key to "Three Two" is just don't eat before you drink and you'll be ok. ;)

The Utah beer is 3.2 beer, meaning 3.2% alcohol by weight which equates to about 4% by volume, where most of the mass market beers in the country are around 5% by volume. If you drink Guinness, that beer is only 4% anyway, so it is the same in Utah as it is anywhere else. Most light beers meet the 3.2 requirement as well.

Utah isn't the only place with 3.2 beer. Look at Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Minnesota & Missouri.

Want to have fun in Salt Lake ? Go to a convenience store downtown (the closer to the temple the better) , walk in looking confused and ask if anyone knows where a strip club is.......

I was TDY at Hill AFB about 3 years ago and a funny thing happened when I went down and went on a tour of the temple.....the tour guide was telling us about how inside the walls it is the "most peaceful place on earth" and the words hadn't cleared her lips when there were 3 quick gunshots, followed by 2 more, and then someone screaming at the top of their lungs "down...down!" BANG ! (final round put through someone), all right at the front gate area.

She had this funny look on her face and didn't know what to say when my buddy said "so.....I guess it doesn't go beyond the gate huh ?" :)

and here I thought this thread was going to talk about this:

ALPA and the SkyWest pilots organizing committee will be hosting informational meetings at the SLC airport in the Jazz room (adjacent to the DAL Crown room).

The dates and times are as follows:

4/19/06 4pm – 6pm

4/20/06 Noon – 2pm & 5pm – 7pm

4/21/06 10am – Noon

I thought it was only C-Springs?

No, it's the whole state I think. In Colorado the 3.2 beer is sold at grocery stores but at liquor stores its the normal stuff. Is that how it is in Utah or is the 3.2 stuff sold exclusively?

The only time I ever drink 3.2 is if I want some beer on Sunday and forgot to stock up in advance.

I spent a few years in SLC. I think Utah is an awesome place to live! You wouldnt have any regrets about moving there. Its reasonably quiet (except for the Mormon protestors) and well kept.

I'd highly recommend it.

Oh yeah, and you can buy the stonger beer, just in liquor stores.

Coming from SEA to SLC I thought I was going to lose my mind. It is not bad at all. You can get regular beer in the liquor stores. There are a few brewers around that have good stuff. If you go to the UT brewers coop you can sample for free. This way you can eat and drink at the same time. Cost of living is okay, it is about like living in Vancouver, WA. Apartments are cheap in the city. Gas is $2.20 a gallon today. Not sure what else you are looking for but overall SLC is a decent place to live. Oh Yeah I go to WY about every other weekend so if you email me your beer order I can get good stuff. i.e. Fat Tire, Dead Guy Ale, stuff like that.
