Safety pilot and time building?

Hi everyone, new member here!

How much simulated instrument/safety pilot time can I realistically log to build time for the 250 hour commercial minimums? It saves me a lot of money splitting the costs but if logging an excess amount of it is frowned upon, I don't want to have bunk hours in my logbook.

Thanks!

Properly done and logged, hood time and safety pilot time are perfectly acceptable and serves to build your skills working as a crew. You'll need good instrument skills going into any commercial operation, except for banner tow or skydiving of course.

As much as you want! Provided you meet all other commercial requirements. Such as x country time and all that good stuff :)

It's really a great way to build time cheaply. Especially if you want multi engine time. And almost* everything you fly will be PIC.
