Saab's still in the commercial aircraft market. Definitely do a lot of leasing of aircraft, not sure if they are still producing them. I'll find out for you tomorrow.

I take it that Saab is no longer in the commercial aircraft market? They made the 2000 for a while but I've never seen one stateside.....seems Saab could have made a decent RJ. Anyone know why they never entered that market?

The Saab 2000 got props instead of jets and that pretty much killed them in the Commercial market. Apparently the 2000 is pretty competative in many areas with RJs except it's not a jet and that's what airlines & pax want, so it did not sell well. They only make military a/c now. There are quite a few posts on the demise of the Saab commercial line at www.airliners.net if you want more thoughts on that....

They do a lot of leasing on the 340s and the small number of 2000s but do not make aircrafts anymore. Actually only 64 Saab 2000s were made. They stopped the production of Saab Regional Aircrafts on December 15 1997 after completion of all outstanding orders.
