RVSM training

I am considering the King course but I found someone who does an online certificate for $50?

How did you get yours done and is it a one time deal?

What do you need it for? If you are flying in RVSM airspace, then usually the sim course or 135 operator will do the training required. Are you going and getting your own type? Just thinking it will be good on a resume? I don't know your background, so please give more info and we can help.

If it's just to pad the resume, save your money. Just my opinion...

I take my type ride in the Hawker on Friday. I need it to fly PIC in RVSM airspace. The Sim school wants $350 for a 1 hour class. I know there are better options out there, just curious how everyone else got the endorsement.

Also, is it a one time endorsement or will I need to renew at some point?

135? If so, they should have some type of RVSM for you to act as crewmember. 91, your company should still provide the RVSM training for you to act as a crewmember. If you are in some type of right seat program, then get the cheapest training you can. It is pretty much* all the same.

There are on-line courses, etc to meet the requirements so shop around if your company is not willing to pay for it. Also, if they are not paying for your RVSM training, then find a different company as soon as possible.

My training when stateside came from the 135 company I worked for. I would venture a guess most people will be in the same boat. I believe** it was a once a year training event 135, but could be wrong...

Please give us more info on how you are going to school but need to find a way to pay for RVSM training, and we can help you, if I have not provided enough information.

*YMMV, always subject to approval, please check with the FCC and ATF to follow regs.

**I'm old. I've been trying to learn JAR and other stuff. I've had wine. What else do you want to hear?

My company (part 91) is paying for the training, never a question about that. That being said, I hate being ripped off. Everyone I know has had the Sim School take care of the RVSM training during their type training. So, I was somewhat taken aback by the cost of $350 for a 1 hour class.

Thanks for your input.

Used King and it works well.

Check your RVSM manual to see if the crew has to take recurrent. When RVSM first came out the company I was working for manual said crew had to take recurrent every 24mo, I think they have gotten it changed to no recurrent now. Where I work now there is nothing in the manual about recurrent. All of this was for 91 operators.

I used King and it was cheap and easy. No sense in paying ridiculous prices at the school house when you probably won't learn much more. Heck, some of the instructors teaching it probably haven't flown since before RVSM anyway. We're Part 91 and don't do RVSM recurrent.
