The in-flight arrestment would have been bad. Looks like he used his nose to work a low and dropping ball. Power controls your glideslope, your nose is used to work AOA. One doesn't move without the other, small adjustments are always made when one aspect changes. Meatball, line-up, AOA....save your life.

In that attitude, if he had caught the wire, he would have likely broken the spine of the jet (and the undercarriage), and would have been lucky to escape the ensuing fireball.
