The Navy isn't big on ILS for some reason, moreso seeming to enjoy TACAN or PAR. Granted, many of their fighters weren't even ILS capable, but whereas ASR/PAR is going away in the AF, the USN/MC loves it; and due to their ops, thats understandable.

PARs are preferred at Navy bases because that's what you get on the ships. The Navy uses the ground stations to keep the controllers sharp when they're on their shore tours.
We used to get lots of T-38s at Pt. Mugu. The reason? We had a PAR and JP-4.

Listen, Ace. Comments like "can't she fly Southwest" are so idiotic that they demand a response. You may not like the fact that Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, but the point is she's #3 in the succession list. As such, she commands a level of security appropriate to her position.
Doesn't matter if the Speaker is Ms. Pelosi, Newt Gingrich or Tip O'Neill. They all require appropriate security, regardless of YOU'RE view of their politics.
It just so happened that I was in the VIP transportation business when the Republicans were in control. Did I like their politics? No. Did I protect them like they were entitled to based on their position in the government? Yes.
If that makes me an ass, so be it. But, who is really the donkey? Someone who KNOWS how the system works or someone who tosses off "Let her take Southwest" because they don't agree with her politics?
I would think someone who serves this country in uniform would know better.
Pelosi should fly south west! When I was in KMIA going to Ecuador, you know who I stood behind in the security line who had NO protection?? John Kerry! Yes, John Kerry stood right in front of me in the security line, walking around the airport with NO security. When I see Pelosi, I see some one who does not have the maturity for the position she has, and appears to be drunk with power over others. Any how, if John Kerry can walk around KMIA and fly commercial, so can Pelosi. A government BY the people, FOR the people? Not a government FOR a select Few... I like to believe that we have not spiraled down to a socialist dictatorship just yet...

I imagine Kerry would be pretty safe walking around - who would want to talk to him. Back in December I was on SWA from LAX to MCI and Kathy Serbelius was on the flight. It was the late flight - left at 7:55PM and got in around midnight. Hardly anyone was on it. Kathy was traveling with an assistant and three guys that may have been security.

I understand that. My point is there are options.
Past vice president Cheney was in and out of the local airport here several times for hunting. The plane was a 757/767 (I really don't know the difference, A big azz plane). Was he required to fly on this airplane all the time or could he have flown down on the Gulfstreams? Seemed like an awful lot of airplane to take hunting. We did get a nice ILS and a new pad for the big machine to sit on while he was here, as well as some new taxi-ways.

The Corps has been crapped on since it's founding in Tunn Tavern. I was a radio operator on a Naval Gunfire spot team from 1994 to 1998. When I got to the fleet from training, we were still using PRC-77's, a 1960's Vietnam war radio. Didn't get the "new" Singars radios' (digital VHF radio with built in encryption) until 1996 in my unit. They were hand me downs from the Army of course.

Well who set the standard quo with camoflauge going digi? Yep we did. All the other branches followed suit. There is one squadron in the 3rd MAW down in Miramar which has a F-18 painted in gray MARPAT and it looks so awesome!
But yes we get the bullcrap handme downs all the time. Why? Because it saves a dollar and those who hand it down know the Corps will adapt and overcome.
