Roush Suvives Another Plane Crash

I don't think you could have had a much bigger name be the first casualty of this years AirVenture.

I'm always afraid insurance companies will kill OSH before I get a chance to attend.

Initial reports say he skidded off the runway in a two engine airplane. Guessing it was his Beechcraft Premier. I saw him land last year at Oshkosh right before the Tuesday airshow.

That sucks. I used to work the line at JQF and would see him weekly for the 3.5 years I was there. He's a very capable pilot, I wonder what happened.

Wow! Too early to tell what happened, but glad it seems like he will pull through. That does look pretty nasty though. Wasn't he featured in Flying a few months back?

I saw the whole thing and i can't believe he is alive. It was bad.

We went to KOSH for the day today and it happened after the air show, when things were winding down. (not much traffic)

When I first saw his plane he was over the runway and very unstable. The engines spooled up (but it was definitely not takeoff power), he pitch up, the airplane wobbled and danced. The nose lowered but still unstable. He pitched up again ( about 50 feet AGL). Then the plane took a hard bank to the right, the nose dropped and he dropped behind the objects lining the runway. The plane came to rest facing 180 degrees from his landing direction.

The thud was so loud, we all thought we would see a big fire ball. Fortunately there was no fire ball or fire.
The engines were running for what felt like a long time, but it probably was only minutes. I don't know who shut them down or if they ran out of fuel.

The fact that he was able to walk away from it with ARFF was a really good sign. Seeing the extent of his injuries is definitely a sobering reminder of the frivolity of armchair quarterbacking the events leading up to the crash before all the facts are in.

I hope he pulls through.

In related news me tinks their will be a new job opening at Roush for a pilot. I have a feeling Mr. Roush is probably done flying himself.

Maybe he should stick with something safer, like racing cars.

Anyone know how old he is? And how old was he when he first started flying jets? From the description of the flight path given above, sounds like he got low, slow, tried to recover and ended up in a stall (doing the dance, ending with a wing dropping off). Reminds me of Thurman Munson in his Citation.

He is very lucky it didn't light up or he'd have been...toast.
