Rollaboard Packing Suggestions

Any suggestions for what to pack in the rollaboard? So far I have enough uniform shirts for 4 days, three pairs of uniform pants (maybe I should pack only 2 pairs?), and the uniform jacket. The rest is socks, underwear, toiletry bag, casual shoes, etc... the essentials. I think I will be buying some granola bars and trail mix to throw in the flight case.

Ipod, Bright white earbuds, orange backpack, spikey hair gel, leather jacket...

You're carrying too much stuff.

1 pair of uniform pants for a 4 day (the ones you wear
1 extra uniform shirt (you'll wear the other one)
3 white undershirts (you'll wear the fourth)
socks are small, so pack as you wish (3 extra pairs should work)
4 pairs underwear (+1 you wear). Always have an extra pair. Who knows.
Sneakers (if you work out) and flip flops (if the season calls for it)
1 casual t-shirt in the winter, two in the summer
1 pair workout shorts
1 pair going out shorts (in the summer only)
1 pair jeans (winter only)
1 sweater (winter only)

Budda bing, budda boom.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm on a 4-day, I take the uniform shirt I'm wearing plus 1 extra just in case. Occasionally I'll take an extra pair of pants. In the winter I wear the jacket; in the summer it stays home. My toiletry bag has been whittled down to the 1 qt bag with 3 oz. bottles, plus another tiny bag that holds my toothbrush and razor. The rest is the essentials as you mentioned, plus nonperishable food. If I need my overcoat, I can squeeze that into my bag as well, or just wear it.

I packed like you when I first started at PDT. Enough clothes for 6 days (I commuted from PHX). The first time you have a negative turn in CLT where you park at E14 and pick up at D4, you'll hate yourself for packing so much. I couldn't imagine how heavy my bag would have been had I owned the metal frame PNT...

I would always wear the same pair of pants for a 4 day. I'd wear a uniform shirt for two days in winter, one day in summer. One pair of jeans/pants for the overnight, two overnight shirts, one pair of shoes for the overnight.

I packed very light. I could pack for 10 days in my old Samsonite.

Add a little bottle of Febreeze and you can cut the number of uniforms necessary down a bit.

Thanks for the advice. The iPod is packed, but no bright white ear buds :D... big huge Sennheiser headphones...oh well, people can make fun of me all they want but I want my music for the commute back home.

I am going to pack the 3 pairs of pants because I have no home in the east coast and I will be living out of the suitcase for about a month until I come back to the west coast. I found a crash pad in NYC, but I need to pack a bit more for a 4 day trip since I doubt I'll have time to jumpseat back to SAN to launder the clothes. I will wear the same uniform shirt twice in two days (with a new undershirt for everyday) but I just can't see myself wearing it for any longer. I'm sort of a clean freak. :)

You don't need to pack 4 uniforms, unless you really smell when you sweat. Hang your uniform in the bathroom when you take a shower, the steam helps get most of the wrinkles out and "freshens" it up a bit. Roll your clothes, I could get 2 weeks worth of clothes into a 22" roller board, by rolling everything. Pack your socks in your spare shoes, be as minimal as you can on the toiletry stuff, tooth brush, comb, anti stinky stuff, and maybe cologne (be considerate on that one, nothing worse than sharing a cockpit with a guy wearing "Panther").

It will take you a couple of trips to figure out what you do and don't need. Overpack at first and carry a small duffel so you don't blow out your rollerboard (ask me how I know).

I echo what CF said, I pack pretty much exactly the same thing. However most of the time I end up wearing just one uniform shirt the whole 4 day, I hate ironing that second one.

Wow, I always thought it was the passengers who made the airliners stink...;)

2 weeks in a 22" bag? Holy crap! When I went to recurrent that was the size of the bag for my shoes...

Bannana hammocks!!:nana2::nana2::nana2:

How's THAT for a mental image!

-A uniform shirt for each day (I refuse to not have a new, crisp shirt each morning)
-A pair of jeans
-An overnight shirt or two
-An undershirt for each day
-A pair of black socks for each day
-Two pair of white socks
-PT gear
-Hygiene gear
-A can of starch
-Laptop
-Laptop charger
-various electronics gear (cables, chargers, etc)
-Spare batteries (for my headset)
-Spare phone battery
-A couple of movies
-About $8 in quarters
-Extra tobacco products

That about does it . . .

$8 in quarters for what? Curiosity is killing me on this one, unless it's for tobacco out of an old-school vending machine.

Toiletry kit.
A uniform shirt/day.
A single pair of uniform pants.
Casual shoes (Pet peeve with wearing my uniform shoes casually or even my sneakers)
Running outfit (still looks fresh!)
Running shoes
Layover pants. Casual but stylish.
A couple of layover shirts. Casual but stylish (So you're not the spoiler if the group you're hanging with wants to go someplace nice)
Coat that packs down nicely.

That's really about it. OH! And my pimp cane. You never know when you're going to need a pimp cane.

I pack:

- Toiletry kit (don't forget extra contacts if applicable and enough solution to last the trip- Immodium AD has saved my butt (literally!) a couple times as well)
- sunglasses
- trip logbook
- Underwear/undershirts for each day of the trip+1 extra each
- 1 uniform shirt for each 2 duty periods of the trip
- 1 uniform pants
- 1 pair of dark socks for each duty period
- running shoes (doubles for casual shoes)
- running clothes
- white socks commensurate to the amount of times I'm gonna get to work out on the trip and go out on the town
- clothes for going out with the CA and/or crew- depends on the season- usually a casual collared shirt and blue jeans or shorts in the summer
- cell phone charger
- camera
- battery powered alarm clock
- earplugs
- super bouncy ball (you think I'm not serious? My gf was going through my laptop bag the other day and was like "OK, you look so freaking business like and yet this is sitting on the front pouch of your laptop bag!")

I also bring my laptop and its associated items.

P.S.: I iron my uniform each night of the trip and buff my shoes. I'm pretty OCD about the thing looking sharp. Always test the hotel iron before dropping it right on your uniform- on occassion you'll find an iron that someone has cooked their clothes on and it will have the residue that gets on your nice white creases. Only takes one time to learn not to do that again!

Come on Lloyd, you know these civilians won't know what you are talking about. :D

Geedunk = candy, snacks, etc.....Stuff you would get from the vending machines.... :rawk:

:p My bad . . . I slip sometimes. The last trip I flew was with a retired Navy F14 type . . . the lingo didn't take long to return!:D
