After 300 dual given and 500 plus TT. I just saved a lot of dinero. Whoo! Whoo! Pass the koolaide! Pass it now!

Wow I guess ATP just got the memo that the airlines train you for that same stuff and that they actually PAY you during training....what a concept...:D

I still think the program is not needed for CFIs transitioning to a 121 company, but good of ATP for stepping up and recognizing their employees contributions to the company.

Nope not quite the right memo. The program is fully booked thru Sept so low demand is not the reason why. In fact, my airlines offer a conditional offer of employment based on completing the course. The reason for the price drop was to attract more instructors. For those that are interested in working at atp the wait in the pit for the last class was 0 days. They standardized everybody and left the pit bosses to work the pit. There can't be a better time to come work here.

your airlines? huh?

Interesting. I still probably wouldn't take them up on it even though I qualify for this free RJ course. It'll still be a chunk of change to fly/drive over to JAX and put up hotel/ car rental for a week - all for something that my future employer is going to teach me anyway.

If you can't tell, I've never been a fan of the RJ course. The sad thing is - I know plenty of people from ATP that had the "outside mins" to go to the usual xjet/ skywest etc.... and didn't get called because they were from ATP and didn't do the RJ course. Funny how that works huh?:cwm27:

In fact looking at the website closer, they have changed the Instructor Position into 2 positions, Standard Instructor, a higher paying position where you relocate to JAX for 1 to 6 weeks and help out in the call center while standardizing and the Alternate Instructor track, where you just spend one week standardizing in JAX and then off to your location. Free housing in JAX. Darn missed that boat. 500 dollar arrival bonus. Darn missed that boat too. Still, Im happy with my 2000 bucks saved

Totally agree. The benefits and opportunities associated with working for ATP keep getting better as the company grows. I think many would be surprised how much they pay their former instructors at the regionals to come teach the RJ course on their time off. ATP will soon be bringing the best of their former instructors back on their time off to be D-Jet instructors, where they can log turbine PIC.

Even if they paid me to take the program it doesn't do jack squat to prepare you to fly the line of the CTRL+ALT+DEL jet.

darnit. Do they have to wait until 300 hours before being able to schedule the course? If you have to wait 3 months chances are you might have 300 hours by the time you go.

You dont have to do it.... If you want a place before that you can go.... But this way they keep ya around longer ;)! Its a good thing, you have to think about it before you still had to find your own way, you still paid for your own hotel etc..... So really this is a NICE perk..... ATP isnt really gaining anything out of there new changes but motivation of CFI's and making the place better. Perhaps them knowing they instruct longer they have this free is an incentive to work their butts off and instruct as much as they can...... Guess what? It'll work!

I mean, I was just wondering if it would be worth it to apply at ATP. I had thought about it and wasn't going to do the CRJ course but ... if its free and all I have to do is do what I'm doing now (CFIing)... hrm. if I had to wait till I got 300 hours and then wait until I could get an opening in the course though I'd be there another 6 months :p

It's a nice perk for the instructors. But putting instructors through the course also turns them into a sales force. Not too many people in my class knew the RJ course existed. By having instructors out there promoting how cool it was to fly an RJ sim they may drum up some business from people willing to pay $2500 for the course.

"ATP will soon be bringing the best of their former instructors back on their time off to be D-Jet instructors, where they can log turbine PIC."

How can they do that on their time off? Don't most airline prohibit outside commercial flying for their pilots? Seems like I heard that somewhere....

I was thinking the exact same thing. Any flight time that you fly as a Commercial pilot, counts toward your monthly limit. Granted if you have a 75hr line, you can legally fly an additional 25hrs as a CFI, but I doubt any airline would want you doing that.

Coming to ATP now is definitely quite a deal. They give you free housing in Jax to standardize, then a 500 dollar bonus upon your arrival to your training center. Houston and Dallas are both open right now. Im in Houston and I love it. Have not been here a week yet and Im at 30 hrs dual given with 2 students. 5 more students arriving for me on the 1st. Im going to time out every single day. ATP got hit real bad from the on-site interview, which is good and bad news since the airline hiring numbers on the website goes up by 5 people every other day. Republic picked up sub 500 hour instructors and are sending them to Paris to train for the E170. Pit time no longer required. Free RJ course. Loads of flight time. A pretty good offer is on the table. If any instructors want to come out to Houston PM me for details. Paul, we already got you on our must have list so hurry up and get the CFI program done:)
