Retro Piedmont Dash-8 Livery

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg We thought this was so cool compared to the Shorts 360 and Beech 1900's we had then. It's funny to see them repainted. EX was an ALG plane. I first flew it 3/15/97.

The Ocho was a bad-assed ride, no doubt. Good radar, great de-ice, sorta-kinda FMS (actually just a spiffy RNAV box), good autopilot, APU, FA, really quiet....just air conditioning that blew large chunks and the climb rate really petered out above 14k. The later model -100s with the improved cockpit ventilation were marginally better on the AC. The -200s were all around much better. Much better climb & cruise performance and air conditioning that actually worked. They had UNS-1B GPS based FMSes, but to be fair, they didn't really add any functionality over the KNS660 RNAVs.

The experience that was USAir Group at the time was another matter entirely.

I used to ride on mainline Dash-8-100s when America West used to operate them themselves, well prior to ever getting in business with Mesa.

I think we had a bunch of old PDT Ochos at Mesa. I seem to remember N989HA and N991HA always being a problem weight wise between PHX and FLG/PSP.

Haha...believe me, those weren't the "old" PDT Ochos by any stretch of the imagination. Try 906HA or 907HA....or 923HA "Ole Sparky".

AA must have gotten a really sweet deal on grey (gray) paint. :sarcasm:

They really need to stop doing retro schemes until they can do them right.

Wow no joke, once the nose is on the ground it stops in one plane length

I love the signature deHavilland negative angle of incedence.
Dash-8 was DeHavilland foray out of the STOL business and into the passenger business.
