I love the Alaska 727I really liked the Wavy Gravy Spirit paintjob. Actually, I really liked Wavy Gravy in general. Nothing compares to the Widget.
It's a FLUF, where the "L" stands for "Long" not "Little"!
Ehh...yeah. The real problem with the 300 is the TFOA problem. The airplane wasn't engineered to last.
As far as an airplane that lasted, that was built to last and far surpassed anyone's expectations...If you want to miss an airplane, miss the Boeing 727. See:

Which can't perform nearly as well as the airplane it's replacing. *grumbles*
I get tired of seeing progressively longer and more re-engined Boeing 737s. The longer the airplane, the higher Vapp (or the Boeing equivalent) so as to not drag the tail, which of course has consequent performance effects. (And don't even get me started on the cockpit and jump seats—yes, there's two. BARELY.) I have similar, but non-performance-related gripes about the bigger CRJs (aesthetically speaking I don't like the -1000 one bit).Boeing should have done a 75/76 and created a wide body and narrow body 787 for domestic to replace the 757!

There is only so much you can do with that airframe and those engines. I'd like to see a new, clean sheet design for a true 737 replacement, not another stretch/re-engine deal.
I'm starting to think the 737 line is like the Brasilia. When the last -135/-145 goes to the boneyard, the crew will ride back on the -120. Same deal with the A320. They'll ride back in a 737-800.The 737 replacement might not happen in your career/lifetime. I believe the Y1 project was scrapped in favor of the 737 MAX!![]()

We'll if were dreaming here for a new desingn. Lets get a 727-300. Make the -200 with an all glass cockpit and some big fan engines on the the pods, get ride of #2 and move the APU to the tail.
