In case anyone in the area was interested, FEDEX has donated one of their retiring 727's to the new USAeroTech Institute maintenance school in Greenville, SC. It will arrive on 6/19 and is going to be the largest plane to ever land at GMU. They will be giving tours of the plane after the ceremonies. Should be neat to be there if you can make it. Info from Facebook post is below:

Good Morning,

Something VERY interesting is happening at USAeroTech Institute on the Greenville Downtown Airport on Wednesday, June 19th 2013.

USAeroTech Institute was formed in May of 2012 to facilitate an employee buyout of the aviation maintenance training program once owned by Bob Jones University. One of the key objectives of this new training organization has been to upgrade and expand the training equipment currently on hand. To that end, FedEx Corporation is donating one of their retiring Boeing 727 cargo aircraft to USAeroTech on June 19th at 11am.

This important event is quickly gaining substantial interest and the guest list is really growing! There are several dignitaries that have been invited including the Governor of South Carolina, our legislators, the Mayor of Greenville, many city commissioners, the airport commissioners and representatives from Boeing Aircraft Company. We would like to invite you to attend and come see the largest aircraft to ever land at the GMU airport. Reception and tours to follow.

Who: USAeroTech Institute www.usaerotech.net
What: Arrival of a retiring FedEx Boeing 727 aircraft
When: Wednesday, June 19th at 11am
Where: Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) southeast ramp. Home of USAeroTech Institute (formerly Bob Jones Aviation) 8 Opportunity Place, Greenville, SC 29607.

Updated information is available on our website in case things change.

Western Michigan received one as well. IIRC FedEx is going to leave the planes intact and also provide support for the instructors for awhile as well.

KFS and IFL have been operating 722's out of YIP for the past couple of months and the only runway available right now is 5995ft... they don't seem to have much trouble, even loaded. Should be cool to see, though!

The school I went to, GTCC in Greensboro, NC, has one that FEDEX donated back in 2005. Got to start the engines on it a few times.

You might want to gently suggest to them that it would be a bad idea to try to drag the thing across a small road, then in to a muddy field, like the rocket surgeons who run KCPS...

FedEx is donating all the old birds, They fly cargo in the morning and get dropped off in afternoon to their final resting place.
