Research Question: 757 vs. 767

I was just curious, but do you all think that there is a difference in passenger comfort between the 757 and the 767? I heard that American flies the 757 from Boston to Manchester, UK. I just wanted to know if it is comfortable to fly 7 hours economy in a 757 vs. 767.

Oh also, what's more important--legroom or seat width?

Thanks

I've never flown 6/7 hours straight so I can't answer that first part.

But for me personally, leg room is WAY more important than seat width.

Well, I know alot of folks whine and complain. I really don't...I've flown 15-20 hours straight, and it's not so bad.

I've ridden a Greyhound bus across the country...I'd rather fly in coach for 6-7 hours than ride the bus for 3 days.

Dont know about the 757/767. But I have flown non-stop back and forth from Honolulu to Minneapolis (7-8 hours) numerous times (DC10-747)and I would say seat width is far more important. On long flights I always get up and walk around to stretch my legs anyway. I spend more time sitting so I would go with the seat width.

The difference is one is a wide body (2-3-2) one is a narrow body, and it makes a huge difference in how the flight is. after about 5 hours you start to feel cramped, on a 777, or 747 it is not too bad on the 767, or the A340 I find it gets bad quickly!

Depends upon which is greater: the length of your legs or the width of your ass. Sucks to be a tall fatass riding in coach!

I prefer to go with "Big Boned".

I have to agree with you on this one. I flew non-stop on a 747-400 from LAX-TLV(Tel-Aviv) 15 hours in the plane and two weeks later TLV- back to LAX with a stop at ORD to let some people off (in the plane well over 20 hours). Both times I was in coach in the middle row inbetween complete strangers. On a long trip like that you walk around a lot! I prefer Seat Width, and being a husky fellow myself I would of given anything for a wider seat.

Personally, I think the 767 is far more comfortable than the 757.

Second aisle, 2-3-2 seating so there's really only one 'middle' seat per row and if you have it, two available routes to get out and stretch. I flew coach to Germany once and it's not all that bad, but if it was on a 757, I'd have taken out my emery board and started sawing at my wrists.

I would take the '67 any day over the '57! I flew on a 763 from KSTL to PHNL which is like 8 hours, and it wasn't to bad. Whereas, when I flew the '57 to Florida from STL last year, it felt like an 8 hour flight.

I flew on a 767 to Anchorage from SLC on Delta and flew back on a 757. the 767 had more room in my opinion I felt less cramped. then again I had a seat with no seat in front of me on the 767:)

I think that the web seat in a C-130 would be far more uncomfortable than anything available on any of the Legacy carriers.

Trust me on this one.

With regard to the original question, I don't think either is a bad ride. However, on flights over six hours (i.e. Hawaii, Europe, Asia, etc.) it is worth it, on any aircraft, to get first or business class if possible. Spend the extra $$ or a mileage upgrade or, if non-revving, wait for open seats up front! The best coach seat in the world is still too narrow and too close to the seat in front of it after six hours.

For the record, I've flown to/from Europe in coach on the 747-400, A-340, and 767. The 747 (Lufthansa) was probably the least comfortable of the three, the 767 (US Airways) in the middle, and the A-340 (LH once again) the best. Say what you will about Airbus, but my opinion is they've thought out passenger ergonomics better than Boeing has.

My best ride to Europe and back was on the DC-10 (Continental), but that was in the jumpseat (talk about space! three flight crew, two jumpseaters, and still room to hold a convention up there) so I can't comment on the ride in steerage.

so I guess none of you guys wanna take a 5 hours cross country flight in a 737. lol, that gets cramped in a hurry, let me tell ya!
