Republic

FWIW that post from APC is mostly true, but the OP probably does not fly for or know many pilots on the CHQ side. The ORD Chautauqua flying is rough, up to 8 legs a day, I've done it on reserve before (though not EVERY day is 8 legs). The other bases are not as bad though, average day of about four legs, I occasionally 5 or 6. It just depends upon your seniority, base, and what you bid...

They hired me into the Q400 with a likely DEN base, class date 12/29.

Don't mean to sound too cynical, however I think your "likely Denver" base is a carrot to get you to come here, and will magically become a Pittsburgh base. That being said, unless you live in Denver, its probably for the best as you will likely be on reserve for a REALLY long time if you did end up in Denver.

Congratulations and welcome. The Q is a fun bird, and the pilot group here is really good to work with.

Can you say the same for the E170?

I couldn't speak to the 170 program as I am on the Q, however, the fact that there is still a training contract on them as opposed to the Q and 145 should give you an idea as to the companies current staffing requirements.

The training contract has little if anything to do with staffing levels, but everything to do with sim slots.
The 170 are beyond maxed out between new hires, recurrent and transfers.

The Q and CHQ programs are equally understaffed.

170on shuttle and republic are prety stagnant now. There isnt much movement in terms of new metal and qs with chq side growing you can expect any of these.

The people that upgraded to q are coming from all of the 3 certs but you can expect most movement on the chq side of the house.

There are peoole leaving chq ca positiins for 170/190 ca positions on the shuttle and republic

Of course my recommendation would be to try exoressjet and skywest before coming here

on the shuttle side its a bit different. Most days are buils 1-3 legs with no more then 4 legs(very rarely we do 5). We do some pretty good distances (Houston - Montreal, PIT-DEN, ORD-CYEG, ORD-SLC, Dtw-DEN, LGA-DFW, ORD-ABQ, LGA-IAH)

I agree. In the beginning of the post, they said something to the effect of "you come in junior and eventually reach the base you want". They were referring to the "pay your dues" mentality. While seniority can make things play out that way, it certainly HAS NOT at RAH. There are Captains here that got the base they wanted right out of training, never sat reserve as an FO, and upgraded in less than a year. There are relatively senior company FOs here that came in, never got the base they wanted, haven't had a line and have been displaced 3 or more times in their 4+ years here. There's one fellow who was displaced 5 times in ONE YEAR. You don't pay your dues because you deserve to. You pay your dues from timing. This is why networking is so important. Otherwise, you're relying on posts like this to only give you some of the information.

You can conceivably by stuck in the last base of your choice, on perpetual reserve with no hope for better until you upgrade simply because of timing and the RAH displacement and vacancy language.

Unfortunately this is true. For those of you wondering you cannot switch a/c or certificates until you bid for captain, unless the company allows it. Example, we used to have a base at GSO for the E145 for DL. The company and DL want to switch the flying to the 170, so they bounce all the senior FOs out force them to commute and fill the GSO base with new hires. The management response was to the effect of, "you don't have to commute, it's not our fault, you can move."

Anybody on here in the 12/12 Republic E170 class? They do not plan to run YX or S5 E170 classes in January.

"God bless..."

It should also be pointed that due to the constant games with management (who is trying to hide the real attrition numbers) there's a big disconnect between line pilots and what's going on at the school house. The company doesn't announce future new hire class dates or planned hiring. Most of my hiring info comes from these forums, the changes in the ISL, and the new captain upgrades.

They aren't trying to hide attrition from you. You become informed of hiring forecast on the macro level in the form of new flying (Q400, Ceazars, etc) and on the micro level with vacancies being posted. I don't see a need for the company to inform line pilots of new hire class dates and sizes but the information is not a secret and available if you request it from a recruiter.
