Republic Recruiting Event: Attend?

I'm sitting at 450TT CSEL (and about to have CFI, hopefully.)

There's a Republic recruiting event at one of my local fields this week and I've been invited as part of a general email list through the FBO to attend.

I know I'm way, way short of time (and qualifications...CMEL is next) but I've been told time and again on this very website that networking/job seeking should start very early in your evolution.

So I'm thinking about it.

What say you? Waste of my time? Good to go and listen?

I know the obvious question is: Is a Regional your goal?

At the moment, I don't know. It's not a decision I have to make any time soon. That's why I'm wondering if this would be good for collecting information?

I will also add a mark to the suggest you "Go" column if it doesn't set you back too much coin, for similar but different reasons.

Early on I was of the idea to follow the flow through the Regionals but was also on the fence way back when you could make more working at McDonald's than first year at any of the countless Regionals. What I experienced helped me realize I was not about the shoulder boards and ties, corporate tap-dancing, 4+ day trips on the road, hauling countless souls in a hypo-allergenic sealed tube. I was finally able to honestly say to myself "That type of flying and being around those type of industry professionals doesn't excite me." So it was good for me, abet for a different reason.

So yes, go; rub elbows with all the different types of aviators out there whether you're at that point or not. You'll never know who you'll meet or what you might see.

What’s the downside?

I’m assuming there’s no registration fee, so worst case scenario you come home with some new marketing tricks in your bag and a couple of business cards.

The Republic event I went to was free. Was at a local flight school.

Yes, this is the kind of event it is.

I may very well attend. Could be interesting if for no other reason than I can find out about options.

I personally believe Republic swindled shareholders out of millions in 2016 with the bankruptcy and stretched labor negotiations out nine years.

I don’t think you should go and I think Bedford should be in jail.

Do it! A little knowledge and networking can’t hurt. And if the reverend tries to convert you we still have plenty of time to corrupt you again before you have to sign your life away.

I can’t see any reason not to go, with the obvious proviso that, like any good recruiters, if ther mouths are moving, “sincerity with a motive” is about the best you can hope for. But I doubt you need me to tell you that.

Why would you NOT go?

The Republic event I went to was hosted at a local restaurant and was much less formal with the recruiter and a local based captain being the hosts. Why pass on free food, beer, swag, and information?

Like @Nark said, I might feel more compelled to go if I had a lot more time in the logbook. It's a drive out to HEF, I live in DC and I'm going to be out in the vicinity of JYO most of the day so it's kind of a time-value thing.

I still haven't decided if 121 is for me, and having data certainly helps, even if it's a soda-straw view through the eyes of a recruiter. The good news is that I'm a sales guy and I know when I'm getting a pitch.

And I have you guys, which is the greatest Aviation BS Detector I've ever seen....

When is it? This could be fun!
