Republic Profits Fall Sharply

How does that compare to what Midwest lost in Q2 just curious. I'm too lazy to look it up but I think it was 21 million??? perhaps?

I believe they were still private back then, but before TPG owned them, they lost quite a bit of money here and there.
 
Airdale you are starting to sound like ToiletDuck over at APC when you start making blanket opinions on how the whole RAH pilot group feels. Speak for yourself there are several thousand other guys here that don't have such a bad attitude toward aviation as a whole.

I'm a pretty optimistic person, but when I was active at RAH, I saw signs that the average pilot at the company wasn't very well supported. I had some things happen to me that were completely out of line. I don't know how everybody feels over there, but IMO Bedford is going to need to rethink his intra-strategy "going forward". LOL he uses that phrase a lot, but in all seriousness, he appears to be so focused outside the company, he's forgotten his employees. They put a lot of blame on the rapid growth of the company before, but now I see a lot of ignoring the pilots. We may not be able to achieve the level of Southwest but we certainly can achieve our own, unique level of company synergy. Unfortunately, I'm having reservations about whether Bedford is capable of leading that. He's certainly a very smart businessman. We'll see whether employee and customer appreciation take his plan well.

I agree. All Im saying is that there are a handful of pilots that like to bitch and moan about how bad their lives are and how the union let them down and how they hate aviation and management yet they still keep flying the line, a real man who is that upset would quit or do something about it. Things need to get better at RAH and I think everyone over here knows that. However getting on message boards and bashing everything from management down to the union doesn't do any good unless you are taking action to make it better. Im cautiously optimistic as well. Things will get better next time around.
 
I am curious is the nearly 16 million lost in only TWO months that RAH owns them what is reported in their 3rd quarter earnings, or are all the losses for that quarter reported with RAH's earnings? SOmething the article sort of avoided.... SO did midwest lose even more then nearly 16 million this quarter?

The reduction in gross revenue appears to be mostly from a reduction in their fixed fee services.

Very true. I often wonder this myself.

Why not work to make your situation better rather than keyboard commandoing your day away. So to speak.

Republic could never provide the type of service that Southwest does....or Midwest for that matter. It starts with treating the employees like a Major airline. But hey, as long as the line holders are happy flying mainline airplanes for 85+ hours a month on a peanut salary, its all good. The only ones I don't hear complaining at Republic are the Captains.

Sorry Socal, I'm bitter about the whole airline industry, because the very jobs we take now were the very ones I had hopes of making it to in this industry. Its all about me me me and us us us here. We'll fly it and grieve it, thats the Teamsters way! Just be happy to have a job -

How could anyone be happy at this company with the Teamsters or the direction this company has been going? Maybe I'm the only one fed up with this garbage...which is why I'm getting out. All the growth here is at the expense of a mainline job I could have had much sooner. Thank GOD Contiental pilots are holding onto their scope like bulldogs on a piece of meat.....because maybe, just maybe, there will be CAL jobs for us in the future.

Im not asking you to sit there and be happy to have a job. Im saying that you hated Colgan, you hate Republic, maybe this isn't for you. Whats the definition of insanity? Isn't it doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

I don't like what our company is doing any more than the next guy. Yes we know that the regionals suck, we know that we need to make things better, we know that this probably won't happen anytime soon or very easily, we know that the prospects of going to a Major and flying a 777 anytime soon isn't very likely. However I also know that this is where our industry is today and it isn't going to change tomorrow. I still get enough satisfaction out of what I do that the flying combined with the hope of making things better still gets me through the day. If I ever get to your point, which Im not saying I won't, you won't ever see me on here complaining about how bad my life is and how I hate my union and hate my company. Ill be out and after I find another job that Ill end up hating after 2 weeks Ill regret leaving the pilot gig.

I never said I hated Republic....and Republic is much better than what I experienced at Colgan.

I am frustrated with a few things.

One is the fact, that my career expectations for ever getting to a Legacy at a decent age have dwindled into a pipe dream. Even still, if I was hired at a Legacy, what type of career expectation will I have at that point? I won't upgrade here for 5+ years, I will catch the hiring wave on the tail end, again. Thus being subjected to furlough....again. It ticks me off beyond belief to hear people at Republic talking about how we're a "Major" now. Its ridiculous....people need to wake up and smell the friggin coffee brewing. We're far from a Major....just having mainline planes on property just makes us a Regional with larger airplanes. This attitude seems to be driving the worthless IBT. I can't believe that even still, our pilot group is happy as pie to truck along with the current union. Sure, those who are active on the message boards feel the same sentiment I do regarding our pay and work rules...but the majority of RW pilots don't visit the boards, and have no clue. The more Captains I fly with, the more I hear a common theme. Its all about us, and more flying for US. And putting US first ahead of the Frontier and Midwest pilots.

Rather than sack up, and agree to take a hit in seniority to make things fair, we've got Captains that want nothing to do with even humoring the idea of taking the FAPA union and making one umbrella under the RAPA. Senior Republic pilots don't want F9 or Midwest pilots anywhere near them on the seniority list, but yet they want the Airbus flying, with no mention of how the hell thats going to happen. The IBT doesn't seem to want to listen to anything an F9 or Midwest pilot/union has to say. I understand the "protect your own" mentality, but will everyone realize that soon, we're all going to be together as one group? I want F9 and Midwest pilots to be provide a strong backbone for this labor group. The gist I get from senior guys here, is to hell with those guys, lets just fly their airplanes and sort it out later. Who cares about the rest of the RAH pilot group who actually want better pay and work rules.

Secondly, I'm tired of being abused on reserve because this tight wad company won't recall the rest of our guys. I'm the only FO on reserve in base, and I am continually getting abused by scheduling. I was assigned a trip a day in advance with an 830am show. I get called at 430am (which I didn't answer, but woke me up none the less) to see if I would help them out and take a 600am show for another trip, because somebody called out and I'm the only reserve FO. This happens frequently. I get my reserve times rescheduled within 24hrs, refuse those times, only to get as snide answer and end up getting a 3am wake up for a goat rope DH to another base because I won't play their game. This ends up costing me my commute home, and a 6 day reserve block turns into a 12 day stint away from home because I don't have the time off to even get home. The contract is continually abused and the IBT has no power to stop them.

If things were improving, I'd be okay with that. If I knew that good things were on the horizon, I'd keep moving along with at least hopes for improvement. We don't even know whats going on in the integration, let alone a bunch of other issues.

I'm just frustrated...thats all. But the 98% of the pilot group that isn't sitting 2 numbers up from the bottom wouldn't know anything about that.

Start a FAPA drive, I'd be more than happy to read into it and I am leaning towards a RAPA type of thing in the future. I don't think ALPA is the answer but I would also give them a chance to prove me otherwise. I volunteer my time with the IBT not because I like them but more because I got sick of sitting around bitching about them and having nothing change. I also agree with you that there are a good amount of Captains that have no clue. Spent 2 years as an FO and now hold a decent line and think that they are entitled to everything. Being on reserve the whole time you have been here must really suck. But like I said if you job is ruining your life then maybe you should look elsewhere. If you still get some sort of satisfaction then stick with it. I don't think its gonna get worse here. Once they recall, which I have heard rumors as early as December, and you start holding a line I think your outlook will change.

Some of these Captains got lucky and upgraded in 2 years here. Well in 2 years I still can't hold a line and I'll be lucky to upgrade in the next 5.

I would start a drive for a new union, but being reserve here is like being shackled to the tail of our fleet. I know as a reserve guy, I've been waiting for things to get really short staffed so they can recall our guys, well that time came awhile ago and yet we've sent no recall letters.

I just want to see change coming and I want to see more from a union than wasteful payday updates with no real information.
 
Your complaining about captains complaining, but yet complaining that you wont be so lucky since itll take, in your eyes 7 years to upgrade. I dont believe the company is not recalling out of spite. The company doesnt care about RAH pilots at all, always follow the dollar. If it was costing them money canceling flights, they would recall pilots. Someway somehow they are covering flights now, so like it or not they are saving money having guys on the street.

Wouldn't that be a bloodbath? ALPA vs. RAPA?

Your point is ........ ? Didn't you quit another regional to go to RAH? You'd probably be a Captain there if you didn't leave. Sounds like a classic case of the grass isn't necessarily greener.

My point is, 2 year Captains complaining about losing a number on seniority to an F9 or YX pilot, while they should just be happy they ended up where they did, when they did.

Airdale, I understand. If all of us were given mainline airplanes to fly, we would all drink the company koolaid as well just like your captains and it seems like others are doing at your company. You are not going to change that. But the others have a point, you chose to go to RAH and I would imagine your qol is still better but you are on reserve at the bottom and the difference between holding a line vs being on reserve at the bottom is big. Especially on your outlook of things.
