Republic PHL or LGA.Pros and Cons...

I would put money on RAH losing their CAL business if they go all 70+ seaters. There is no reason now for the CAL NC to give up scope. The pension is already gone, and they kept their scope during the concessionary contract.

True. But Bedford has a huge hard on to get 70-75 seaters at CAL! Probably won't happen, but man is he hoping...

I'm sure CAL mngmt is too!

I get the feeling it's gonna take a HUGE offset for the mainline guys to give that scope up. They've seen what's happened to Delta and NWA (ie domestic ops pretty much gone). You can look at the 170/190 as one thing at CAL---a replacement for a 737.

I agree with Mark. The cat's more or less out of the bag with the 170. The 190 DEFINITELY shouldn't be an outsourced airframe.

All management has to do is offer something like a $30/hr payraise to the entire pilot group in return for signing <77 seat scope away. Presto, motion passed. The majority of the guys just wouldn't care because they'd get their pay raise and the minority are the ones who'd have to worry about getting furloughed.

That being said, 50 & 70 seat RJ's really don't make much sense in a broad sense so I doubt this will happen. I think you'll see the growth in the turboprop market (Bombardier is already talking about a stretched Q400 capable of 90 seats, and ATR is talking about a new 90 seat airframe) and the 50 seat market will continue to serve the long, thin routes. I think CAL is going the right way with the Q400's.

2500 hours TT and I can't remember how much time in company AC. Flew with a November 06' hire that was just finishing up his high mins as a CA.

I agree with Train pick a base where you will be happiest not because of what you will be flying. If they do just decide to up and get rid of the 145s (half our fleet) at once then they will probably furlough and that will be based on the seniority list and it won't matter where or what you are flying.

You could be stuck on the bottom of the list for a long time. If 11 or 12 days off still sounds good then thats fine.

Kingairer if the dung hits the fan you will be up a creek just as much as i am. The 170/175s fly the routes that mainline could easily do with less frequency. I doubt to see a 757 on a CVG-TRI route. Now IND-DEN or CLT-ORD I could see. And if we ever do furlough its all based on seniority not what you are flying, that is the point of one seniority list isn't it? Plus I only sat reserve for a month and had 13 days off in March. Not something to brag about but it is what it is.

I really hope that doesn't happen.

He's not saying you guys are going to furlough because the crap hits the fan, he's saying that the business plan of Chataquatron is to, in the end, dump all the 50 seaters for larger airframes. Your trips will then go to crap (ever done a 10 hour 4 day?), and it will be all anybody can hold while the reduction happens.

I can give you some choice examples from our Cleveland base if you'd like to hear about how bad it can get. When you reduce base sizes/fleet sizes it's what happens, so as he said unless you like 11 days off a month, and I'll add in 10 hour 4 day trips, get on some equipment that will have a decent schedule.

Exactly. I dont know what im talking about anyways.

fair enough i just don't see that happening in the next couple of years. Maybe the crjs.

I've seen this company go from having 18 month upgrades and 80 a month through the school house to voluntary furloughs in less than 8 months.

Anything can and will happen, with or without notice.

I see what both of you are saying and I admit that I plan on upgrading into the 170 when my number is called for that reason. I just don't think that you should choose where you work because of what you will be flying. Don't up and move your whole family so you can fly a 170 when there is a 145 base in your home town. All these RW and S5 guys think that we are just going to wake up one day and have all of CHQs 50 seaters gone. Yes they do want to move away from the 50 seaters but I think that we are going to be around for a long while. Wikipedia says CHQ has 120 planes all 50 seats or less while S5 and RW have 97 planes combined.

I don't think that if or when the big guys start cutting our flying it will be all 50 seats or smaller. Remember its not Bedford's choice what to cut if the airlines start cutting routes. Like said before Bedford does want to phase them out but he wants to have the lift in place before doing so and at that rate its going to take years. How many 170/175s are they taking delivery of this year? like 10? 15 maybe?

I do agree that the 50 seaters are a dying breed at Chautauqua but they will be around for several more years. I think they will be around long enough for a new hire to move through the ranks and be gone before the last one leaves the property. Just opinion though...
