I DON'T appreciate you calling me out but you know what, you choose not to say anything because you don't know much. Good choice if you don't want to sound foolish.
did I say I was? Just making a point that Im not the only one with my opinion for those telling me to shut up(CaptainEvegwhatever)
All it could take is a plane running off the end of the runway with a low time FO on IOE to get the media all over this.....
A little about my background, I got most of my rating through the university 141 system. When I went to ATP for my multi and currently my CFIs, I was impressed by the training there. Much faster then university, with motivated instructors (On commission based pay). This is why I show much enthusiasm for the program. The main reason I went to ATP was to get multi-time so that I wasn't stuck like a lot of my friends at the university who had to purchase multi-time or wait for a 135 job. Ever heard the slogan "Get multi, Get hired" ?
I never thought you'd start talking about SOSU like that...We can already see how educated you are b/c of how you talk about getting your "rating through the university 141 system." You got a Priv and Comm CERTIFICATE and an Instrument RATING. They are different.
You also must understand that ATP is a quicker program for one reason, you're paying to get everything done faster, so that's what they do. ATP trains you for the same certificates and ratings as the university but at the univ you must also complete at 4 year degree. Hmmm...think about that for a minute. So I think that your attack on the university program is solely b/c you fell behind in your training and your degree was going to be finished before your flight training was. Which is no big deal b/c it happens all the time for a number of reasons (ie money, time, kids, etc). Don't blame the university, blame yourself. I'm actually offended b/c as you know, I was an instructor there while you were enrolled there and you are now implying that we weren't motivated even though I know your instructor flew with you A LOT to finish up your instrument and commercial quickly.
Why do you think that multi time is the key to success in aviation?? Multi time is not the key, a well rounded and educated individual is the key. Your flight time will grow after that. Maybe you should spend some extra time instructing instead of going to a regional right away, to become well rounded and educated. You learn so much after 500+ hours of dual given. I no longer instruct at SOSU but I work for what you consider a lowly, disgraceful Part 135 operation. It's what they call in the industry, FREIGHT DAWG!! Just remeber when you're doing a visual parallel approach and you see that Baron haulin' a$$ passed you on final, that's me, giving you the bird!
Disclaimer: None of these remarks were meant to offend anyone other than 777forever, so I would like to apologize if you were so offended.
I give. What movie?
Good article Steve.......but it says nothing about his total time. It did mention he had 25 hours in type, but everyone has to have 25 hours at some point.
Their mistake was letting him land in foul weather when the company does not allow it. Thats the captains responsibility!
Seems like a isolated incedent....
Plus, the public watches their local news coverage which doesnt know the airline buisness from Adam (whatever the hell that means)
"Real Genius"
Val Kilmer comedy - around 1986 or so. Great effin' flick.
Actually, it's still up in the air on who was flying. Company policy, the CA should have been the one landing. I actually know the CA, and he's pretty sharp and on his game. However, all it takes is an increased workload and an FO that's so distracted by the hideous WX conditions (especially if he doesn't have a lot of IMC time under his belt) that forgets to arm the TRs....
cool! Ill have to rent it.
I like Val Kilmer. Have you seen "The Salton Sea" yet?
Murph, my comments never meant to degrade my flight training or education from SOSU. You simply took my comments out of context. SOSU built my foundation as a pilot and a person and I would never throw them under the bus by making negative comments about them.
When I first started posting on this forum Jtrain referred SOSU as a so so school. I defended my school promptly when he said that. Today, I was simply giving my opinion about ATP. Notice how I said University 141 system and did not say the school by name. I was referring to the University 141 system for training compared to part 61. I did not start my CFI at Southeastern because I CHOSE NOT TO. My degree is in aviation management. So I thought it would not be efficient to sit in Multi-engine ground and the 2 CFI ground schools for a semester, take up credit hrs, and delay my graduation. Rather I chose to finish my degree, get my multi during christmas break, which I did, study for my CFIs during spring semester, graduate, and get my CFIs. I said ATPs instructors were motivated, I did not say SOSU's instructors were not motivated, stop putting words into my mouth.
You were the first one criticizing me when I decided to go to ATP talking about Im paying more for ATP. The multi program at ATP was the same price as SOSU's multi flight training and that doesn't include the semester long multi ground tuition! My multi ground was 3 days. Ok, I said ratings instead of certificates, Im typing at 100 miles an hr then go about my business. You people need to stop pointing out little things when you get the big picture. You're insulting my education? I guarantee you my G.P.A is higher than yours, and I did the more difficult Aviation Management degree while you got a Professional Pilot degree. Hope piloting works for you because I don't know what you can do with that degree.
Multi-time is important because at least 100 required by most quality regionals. You should know how the instructors their struggle to get multi-time without going out and buying it. Once again, DO NOT put words into my mouth. The faculty and staff at SOSU have done so many things for me that I can promise I will return the favor to other students once I attain my goals. My two instructors at SOSU are good friends, and did wonders for me as a pilot. It OFFENDS me as a former schoolmate that you just take my comments out of context and put words into my mouth I never said.

Val has a freaking huge head now, like melon size!!!
<scottish accent>Look at the size of that boy's head! It's got it's own weather system! It's like sputnik - mostly spherical but quite pointy in places!</scottish accent>
