Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airlines

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

It probably has something to do with the fact that I bought a ticket on them yesterday.

In all seriousness, call me crazy but if I was the CEO at jetBlue I'd be seriously looking at this. Common fleet, west coast presence.

I imagine JBU will be a major player.

However, this doesn't necessarily come as a surprise.

Bedford has had issues running his "Major" airline since day one. Guess his little experiment failed.

pretty much how I feel, go buy some JB stock now.

That didn't take too long.

Maybe, maybe not. They have a lot of money in the bank, but they are about to get into the middle of a bidding war for the excess LGA and DCA slots that Delta and Airways are selling. I can't remember where, but I saw a quote from somebody in Management there that said they are will to spend what they have to in order to get their hands on the slots.

Stock was up over 60% today. Yowza. Hope my homies at F9 get along better now. No offense to you Republic folk, but Frontier is better off in another direction.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

It says it itends to sell, doesnt mean anyone would buy it in its present state. Republic was better off without frontier, and thats whats reflected in the stock price today.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

To be clear, I wasn't trying to be jerky - just rooting for the home team ya know? I sincerely hope both companies can successfully split and find success once again as separate entities. More over, F9 kicking SWA's arse out of DEN :) Long shot, I know but you gotta have somebody to root for right?

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

I had a feeling something like this would happen. We found out about a month ago that OKC would be losing some flights. Our RON is getting sacked which will also get rid of our originator in the morning. I feel really bad for our FT people. They are going from 40 hours a week to 32. Plus, they'll probably end up canning some of the newer PT people. Continental had 4 ramp spots open up, so most of us applied with them. Come on Continental!!!

Question: It sounds to me like Republic wants to go back to US, United, and Delta flying. Do you think they will keep the 190s flying for Frontier?

Why kick SWA out of DEN? It's our most profitable city and largest growing too. I've never understood the animosity towards SWA in DEN. Care to explain?

The logical inference would be that he would like to work at F9 one day, and being that F9 has one base, Denver, if Southwest does TOO well there, it will likely come at the detriment of F9, meaning he won't be able to work at F9.

But that's just a WAG.

To use an anology, IMO, SW is like a fictional New York Yankees who won the World Series for the past 15 years. Unless you play for them, your going to get a little tired of them winning all the time.

I haven't made it a secret that I have love/hate thing with SWA. I love how they treat their employees, are the most heavily unionized airline and have enjoyed a successful business model. I hate the fact about the type rating, they were the original under-cutters back in the day and have put the squeeze on my hometown airline as Train and Kingairer alluded to.

Sure, it's capitalism which is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't mean I have to like brand B since they are doing better than brand A. Kind of a complex thing, but overall I'm simply not a huge fan of SWA. Great folks and all, but just not for me. I have zero interest in working there, therefore I want F9 to bounce back and do well again. And yeah, I wouldn't mind flying a french aeroplane around with an animal on the tail for the rest of my career either. :)

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

I do feel for the F9 and RAH crews who have had to deal with, and clearly the YX crews, who have had to deal with BB trying to run his Big Boy airline.

Being a subcontractor just wasn't enough.

Now, unfortunately, from what I'm reading elsewhere, a lot of tension is still built up across "party" lines. In the end, I do sincerely hope that all involved parties are able to provide improved QOL, benefits, work rules, and wages for their respective camps. In the end, that's all any of us are after.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

And there goes the one airline I actually enjoy flying on. :( Right after they start baking cookies too.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

The Hot rumor now is that the sell off is just a front basically. Since they will likely not find anyone to sell to, they will create some sort of private shell to "sell" F9 too. Then in about 2 years run an IPO on it, and the big wigs cash in and laugh all the way to the bank.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

Lot of talk over here at B6. What we really want is the DCA/LGA slots. I could see if somehow we did not end up with any additional slots that maybe..a HUGE maybe, we would make a play on F9s assets (ie Airbus and some slots at key airports). Obviously the company (F9) is not doing well and B6 has made it known that it does not intend to go into markets that are a losing battle. Our NE and Caribbean expansion is profitable and that is our focus right now. Our CEO keeps preaching "organic growth" so who knows how its all going to play out.

Re: Republic announces it will sell, spin off Frontier Airli

I thinik F9 has relatively few slots in those areas. Who wants to go into denver as a new face in the game? Add the MKE and MCI money pits. I just dont see anyone taking on 60 airbuses overnite in a total package buy.
