Republic Airways presents: Schedule your own interview!

Do they require you to resign your seniority number? I could use a little "Christmas Cash" if I'm able to interview, get the job, get paid, and then resign before my next pairing starts later this month.

2 year training contract, you'd be on the hook for 20 LARGE.....

The funny part is, AA was ricky-tick quick to give up that 175 flying, and now it's melting down because their chosen feed can't staff it.. but hey, fork over the cash, or you'll never see a new airplane again! It's like being mugged by the Three Stooges.
Yup. No regional will be able to staff this stuff properly. Larger aircraft help, but when you give a plane over to an airline as growth you know staffing will be impossible. The best answer I can think of is to give the larger aircraft to the airlines saturated by 50 seaters in a trade. AE, XJT, ect.

Training contracts typically do not hold up a court.

They usually are just used so they can say "not eligible for rehire". Once you get that you have to explain yourself in an interview.

I worked for CJC- briefly. They made me sign a training contract- then refused to sign it in front of me. When I walked, they sent me a bill for the prorated amount of the year I didn't complete. For training in the *other* airplane. You know- the one I *didn't* fly... Derp.

I acquired legal counsel (sis hooks me up) and she told me it would likely cost more to litigate to collect than the contract is worth.

What did I take away from all of that? 1) The contract is made to scare the pilot, and the company might not even have value in upholding it. 2) Any company that requires a contract for a duration of time may be a questionable place to work.

Your mileage may vary, but any place trying to lock you in to a long-term deal fears market conditions changing during the term, and wants to preempt that to remove your choices. Anybody wanna buy a cell phone?

This is why this 'concession' stuff makes me laugh to a degree. Even if the influx of new pilots to the profession had been maintained, turnover as pilots move on to better gigs will make the lower echelons of the industry subject to flux. Since the supply has been choked, demand is up, and time is now up to adapt, pilots are valuable.

The only way the airlines can continue to pull the wool over the eyes of up-and-coming pilots is if the collective consciousness is too slow to realize the shift in the paradigm.

If only there was some way to make young pilots awa- hey, THANKS JETCAREERS! ;)

It's not only making young pilots aware. It's also making leadership in MECs who have tried to sell concessionary contracts aware. Some of them are on the front line of fear with Company opinion leaders scaring them to death. Rather than using rational decision making abilities they allow their emotions to dictate the next course of action.

Well, to HECK with that. I'm not taking my cues from the Union, either.

Related/unrelated, I had an XJT newhire on the jumpseat last night with an interesting story.

He was one of the people who received the unsolicited class date from Mesa. Later that day when commuting from training he ran into a pilot from Mesa going to work a job fair.

Apparently this guy still texts him day and night about coming to Mesa. He also gave up that the reason they were doing the blind invites was so that they could go to mainline and say "sure we can have more flying, look how many people we have lined up for class."

That is flipping hilarious.

When they had the SouthernJets contract in NYC, how'd they perform?

OOH OOH OOH, I know! There I was, on a full fare ticket from JFK to Virginia…

I just realized that about three of you will understand the above image. If even that many.
