Replace the F-35 with . . . an updated Super Hornet ?

As a side note, how are you enjoying civilian life? Is it more of the same? Better? Worse?

The best decision I ever made was enlisting. The second best decision I ever made was getting out. My personality it not cut out for the enlisted life, especially with the "quality" of NCO's I hadz

If only somebody could jump on here and describe the EW capabilities of the F-35...or F-22 for that matter. :)

Yes, I can :sarcasm:. I don't know crap but if I can think of this i'm sure the Geniuses at the departments applicable have thought of this.

An F-22/F-35 like EW capability can be strapped to an F-18E/F. But nobody wants to buy YESTERDAYS airframe & engines capability. The F-35 is a platform many modern nations want to buy (F35-weapons program sales is much much cheaper than F-22, F-22 couldn't be sold. It would bankrupt many many nations). Hence the F-35 weapons program & capabilities similar & cheaper than the F-22 & much more versatile in use. The key to the programs success is not the engines & airframe, but EW hardware & software engineering.

World nations did eat it up like many did the PC, internet, iPads, and all things Western.

Like Microsoft & Apple, let Lockheed & Boeing do the selling. But also like the great frienemy snow den leaked, let our geniuses tap into these jets data from the consumers all over the world that we sell it to. When War happens the data tapping & capabilities are invaluable.

Thats what i would do. No brainer.

Consumerism has run rampant within the DOD. Gov't lobbying & revolving doors in the defense department. Industrial complex looks out for profits.

We've spent billions gearing up for war!!!! Who are we fighting? Insurgents in the desertable & patrolling no fly zones with highly capable airframes.

This is the American I love. Strength through power, amnesia, and billions on wasteful military programs.

The nuke idea isn't bad.

Again nobody on here can go deep into details on this but no, not a chance.

To even approach the sensor fusing in the F-35 and put it into a legacy platform you would basically have to reinvent the aircraft. At that point your savings goes to hell. That doesn't even get in to the LO problem which is by and large the reason this platform is so much more capable than any non LO aircraft even with similar sensors/avionics/etc.

Every time we post design mod an aircraft we make something not work... every single time. If it were so darn easy Grippens and Rafales would be blowing us out in foreign sales since they currently built, manufactured in numbers, airframe mature, cheaper, and just as capable. That last item just isn't going to happen. Sure they will integrate anything on anything when Raytheon or LLC talks to somebody with Migs or Blk 30 vipers at a trade show, reality is a whole other problem.

Some of my favorite is all the vaunted "locally produced" crap we see countries like Israel or Japan put in their US build legacy aircraft. Some of it works, some of it create more problems than it solves.
