Replace Airmen Certificate

GUYSH! GUYSH! GUYSH!
Ok, so I moved 2 weeks ago, updated my address and ordered a new cert. I just got it today and noticed some of the font was larger than other lines, weird. Then, I noticed the doi was 8/14/2009, when I took my ride, and the original doi was 3/15/2009.

Thought this was interesting, because if someone were to order a new cert every 2 years, and the DOI kept changing, who would know if they needed a BFR?

The DOI in the online database has been changed too.

The DOI is the date of issuance of your certificate, as in, the actual physical certificate.

For example, when I got married and changed my name and got a new address, I got a new cert with the new name & address and a new DOI also.

No big deal, really.

Your logbooks provide the dates necessary for BFR. Your certificate means nothing as far as currency goes, your logbooks provide that.

I figured so much, but by glance at a cert, since you are not required to carry logbooks with you, if you were to be ramp checked, they would not know if you were infact current. We use the honor system, but someone could scribble things in. It just caught my eye.

A lot of things in aviation work on the honor system. If you were to get ramp checked you could just say you don't have your logbook to prove the BFR and that would be the end of it. Although if they did an investigation I'm sure they would find everything out.

If the DOI didn't change would they then be able to tell if you were current?

I'm not sure which tree you are barking up.

I agree with everyone else. Not a big deal. Flight review has nothing to do with the writing on your certificate.

You don't need a new certificate when you change address. As long as the FAA has your new address on file, you're good.
