Repeated Cross-Country over 50NM (Student Pilot)

I have a potential student that has his airplane based 52.3NM from my airport. He would like to get his initial training completed at his airport and then just fly to me each time until he gets his license.

61.93 (b)(2) allows me to endorse him for repeated cross country not more than 50NM. Is it possible to give him a 61.93 (c)(2) only one time for that specific route (and give a range of dates), or must I endorse him every time he comes for a lesson...

If you are comfortable with him doing the 52nm flight, then print some sticky labels and date them the day you need him to fly for your lesson. When you finish a lesson and are signing his logbook...slap one of the labels in the back with the endorcement to fly on the day of the next lesson.

right but part of the responsibility is to check the wx and conditions, including TFR's so that could create a bit of a pickle on a bad day.

Just include that student must call instructor before taking off for final approval.

yes...you're right. I neglected that the CFI can caveat the endorcement anyway they please..."...can fly cross country provided they call me within 10 minutes of departure as certified and noted by an FBO employee signature"...or words to that effect.

thank you...

If the "conditions" of the endorsement included that the student must call the instructor to receive permission before departing; would I be able to just endorse his logbook once for a range of dates, with that condition included? (i.e. sort of make it similar to the 90 solo endorsement, but for a longer cross country?)

For something "gray", my best opinion is call your FSDO, get an answer in writing with his name on it. Cover your butt!

What jhugz said is probably going to be your best bet. Sometimes it's better to beg forgiveness than it is to ask permission, but this is not one of them.

Dumb question here...are there any marginally closer airports you could drive to? There's an accepted process to endorse repeated flights from 25nm to 49.999999nm, so if you could agree upon a way to charge your student mileage in addition to your usual fee then maybe it'd work out.

This. The last thing you need is to have this guy have an accident, incident, or ramp check when he gets where he is going, or back home. I can't think of an endorsement that will cover you, so you would probably need an LOI. CYA. The money just ain't worth it.

Thanks for the responses. We're probably going to work out some arrangement where i come to him. Good topic for discussion though.
